Chapter 254 - Questions a Child Shouldn’t Ask

I watched Jared closely, noticing the way his small face tightened with concern as he looked up at me and asked, "What happened to Grandpa?" His voice was soft but serious, carrying more awareness than most children his age.

"It's nothing serious," I replied gently, keeping my tone steady. "He's just stressed out."

Jared nodded, though I could still sense his worry lingering beneath his calm expression. "Then tell Grandpa to take care, okay? I want to see him tomorrow."

"I will," I said. "I'll take you to see him tomorrow."

Maybe his presence would help. My father always softened around Jared, the tension easing as if instinct recognized something safe and grounding.

Jared continued eating for a moment, then looked up again, his expression turning thoughtful in a way that felt too mature for his age. "Mommy," he said slowly, "I think Mr. Presgrave is a good man. You should consider being his girlfriend."

I blinked, caught off guard by how serious he sounded.
