The woman didn't stop. "During the pack's family sports day, your mate said he works in finance. Alphas in that field are always busy but powerful too. What about you, Miss Tillman?" Her voice carried idle curiosity, but it scraped against my nerves like claws.
"I stay home most of the time," I replied smoothly, masking everything. Lies came easier than explanations. In this world, weakness drew attention, and attention brought trouble.
"Where do you live?" she pressed again.
