Suryansh's POV
We reached the address of Ruhi Kashyap. It was about 4โ5 km away from the office. I stepped out of the car and Siddhi followed. We exchanged a brief look.
"Are you sure this is the area?" I asked, as the locality was very quiet. There were not many houses, only five or six, and even those had a lot of distance between them. The area also looked quite shady.
She said, "Yes, her office documents mentioned this address, and I also verified it from her government ID, so this is the address."
I nodded. Maybe I just observe more sometimes. It's my habit.
"Which house?"ย
She pointed towards the left. "House no. 302."
We walked towards it. As we approached, my attention immediately went to the main door.
It was slightly open.
I slowed down.
"Strange..." Siddhi murmured. "Who leaves the door like that? Or... did she run away? Did she find out we were coming?"
Her reasoning made sense. I was thinking along the same lines..
"Let's go inside and see what's going on," I said.
The inner door was open as well. We stepped inside and entered the living room.
No one.
The house was completely silent. Not even the usual background sounds you expect inside a home. I scanned the area carefully while Siddhi did the same.
"You check there," I said, pointing towards the kitchen and bedroom area. "Even if she is not at home, if she is the one who sent the threat note, then she must have some proof against us. Let's check if there is any clue."
Siddhi nodded. "Maybe she stepped out for a while."
Then she paused. "But still... why are both doors open like this? Who leaves like that?"
"Yes, you're right."
"But if she ran away, she would have taken the proof with her, so why are we checking?" she asked.
"I know," I said, "but there is still a possibility that something was left behind if she left in a hurry. We might find something."
"Yes, okay. I'll check there," she said, understanding my point.
I checked the drawers and cabinets carefully, going through all the files, but there was nothing. Nothing important.
I pressed my fingers against my temples for a moment when I suddenly heard Siddhi's voice, "Sir... Sir... Sirrr..."
I immediately hurried towards the direction of her voice, the bedroom.
And what I saw was something I didn't expect.
Near the corner of the bed, Ruhi was lying on the marble floor, unconscious. Siddhi was sitting beside her. I crouched down near her.
"Sir... she is dead."
"Dead? What..." I checked her pulse. There was no pulse, no heartbeat.
"She is dead," I said.
Siddhi looked tense. "We were thinking she ran away, but... she is dead."
Then I noticed the red marks around Ruhi's neck. Siddhi followed my gaze and said, "She has been strangled... maybe with a rope or cloth."
"Yes, it looks like that," I said. "Which means someone has killed her. This is not a natural death or suicide. If it was suicide, she wouldn't be lying here like this."
She nodded. "Yes, you're right. But who would kill her? She threatened us, and if we didn't do it, that means there is someone else."
"And why kill her?" I added.
I stood up and looked around again. I was a little shocked. Everything happened so suddenly, and I couldn't understand what was going on.
It's not like I am seeing a dead body for the first time. I have seen many, and some of them... I was the reason.
But this felt strange.
That's when I noticed something else.
Around her body, white rose petals were spread.
Not just scattered,
crushed.
As if someone had deliberately pressed them into the floor.
Siddhi said, looking at them too, "First she sent you white roses, your favourite, and now near her dead body there are white roses. Isn't it strange, Suryansh?"
I didn't answer immediately.
"And I think it is connected to you... her murder."
I thought about her words.
"Yeah, Siddhi... I think so too," I said. "Like today morning she sent me red roses and that threat note, and now suddenly in the afternoon we find her dead in her own house."
"Who would kill her because of me? And why?"
I exhaled, slightly frustrated. "I'm just fed up with all this. First, when I joined this company, I received white roses and love notes. Then for a whole week it stopped. And today again I got roses, but red instead of white, and instead of a love note, it was more like a threat."
I paused.
"Now there is someone else involved. What does he or she want?"
"Because of all this, we are not able to focus on what we actually came to do. Our mission our goal."
"Yes, true," Siddhi said. "Because of these psychos, we are getting distracted from our goals. But we don't have to. We have to focus on our mission. We don't have much time."
"Yes, you're right," I said. "Before we face any major loss, we need to stay focused. Call the ACP and tell him to handle this case. And make sure that my name and the company's name are not involved. And also inform him to give all reports to me about her case and find her killer as soon as possible. I want to know who did this."
"Okay, I'll do it," she said and went outside to call the ACP.
I stepped out of the room, my mind still occupied with everything that had just happened. What exactly was going on? Did she really know about me, or was she just bluffing? It was still a mystery, and now the answers were gone with her.
I hadn't found anything here that connected directly to me.
Did she really send that note, or was it someone else? And if it was someone else, did her killer take all the evidence with them?
I exhaled slightly.
No point overthinking right now.
"Let's see what happens," I muttered under my breath. "You can hide wherever you want... but if you come in my way, I won't let you go."
Just then Siddhi came back.
"Sir, he's on his way," she said. "He told me he'll handle everything from here. And I have specifically informed him that no media coverage, and no mention of you or the company."
I nodded.
"Now let's go to your home," she continued. "They must be waiting for us, thinking we're coming for the celebration. But now we'll have to tell them that there's a new problem."
"Yes, let's go," I said, moving towards the exit. "And don't worry about this problem. We'll find whoever is behind this soon."
I paused for a moment before adding,
"We'll celebrate after that. For now, we focus on our goal. Instead of a celebration, we'll do the work we were supposed to do anyway."
"Right," Siddhi nodded.
