The two brothers drove an ox cart loaded with the roots to The Moon's Fork, and the four of them began making starch. Thus, while waiting for the hunting net Ewan had asked Vance to prepare, they diligently earned money. Every evening, the four busily pounded fern roots and settled the water, and in the morning, they pushed a cart out to sell. At noon, Simon and Wyatt would drive the ox cart back, while Ewan and Asher Ryder stayed behind to dry the starch.
