Finally, Powder changed into her magical girl outfit and had a great time playing in the room with her two little furballs.
The precondition for Powder to agree to change her clothes was that she somehow found a welding torch and welded the door and windows shut.
Whenever she needed to go out, Powder would ask Chen to change her back to her original appearance, and Chen could only comply.
...Afternoon...
"The location of the Immortal Bastion is precisely the heartland of Noxus when it later became an empire."
"It was the first castle captured by the Noxian tribes. It is said to have been built in ancient times by a terrifying sorcerer."
"The Noxians outside made this captured city their capital and have preserved its name to this day."
At the bow of the airship, Katarina looked with pride at Noxus, which they were about to enter. This was the capital of Noxus, and the pride of the Noxians!
Powder leaned on the railing, of course, her attire was not that of a magical girl now, but her original form. She gazed at the enormous city in the distance.
The Immortal Bastion was vast and magnificent. The architectural style here was completely different from the steampunk Zaun, and also different from the bright and artistic Piltover.
In the center of the city were tall walls reminiscent of medieval Western Europe. These walls had visibly endured countless wars, but with the expansion of Noxus, they had long ceased to function as city defenses and had become mere decorations.
In the very center of the Immortal Bastion, there were three colossal, triangular stone pillars reaching to the sky. These were the heart of the Immortal Bastion, symbolizing the power of Noxus, solemn and majestic!
In the eyes of those outside Noxus, Noxus was seen as militaristic, bloody, barbaric, and insatiable, but for those who saw past its warlike exterior, the social atmosphere here was surprisingly inclusive. All talents and aptitudes of the people were respected and given opportunities for cultivation.
In other words, they didn't play the capitalist game here. Noxus disdained the exploitative practices of capitalists; they only pursued power!
Regardless of social standing, background, homeland, or personal wealth, anyone could gain power, status, and respect in Noxus, as long as they could demonstrate the necessary abilities.
Those who could use magic were highly regarded, and the empire would even actively Prowl for such individuals, allowing their special talents to be honed and utilized most efficiently for the empire.
...
Chen and his group had already landed; the airship could only go as far as outside the city walls.
They walked on the main road of Noxus. The architectural style of Noxus was solemn, the streets were narrow and secluded, the eaves had battlements, and the city gates were grand and imposing.
Powder was like a curious baby, wanting to look at everything, wandering around the market:
"Chen, what kind of big dog is that?"
Chen saw that it was a large canid animal without fur but with scales on its body, looking like a wolf.
Talon whispered:
"Those are Drake-Hounds. They are fierce, pack-hunting predators. Noxians are very fond of using them for military operations, guarding homes, or simply as expensive pets. Owning one or more Drake-Hounds is a symbol of wealth and power."
Then he glanced at a tall man next to a Drake-Hound:
"You can't mess with these people."
Chen nodded. In a place like Noxus, it was indeed best to keep a low profile and prioritize safety.
Powder tugged on Chen's sleeve:
"The big dogs are so cool! I want one too!"
"...I'll buy one for you when I have money..."
Chen scratched his head awkwardly. He wasn't actually out of money; Piltover had been conquered, and many capitalists' homes had been raided. He now had absolute authority in Piltover and Zaun.
But he had spent all his money on improving Zaun's environment, building infrastructure, ensuring people's livelihoods, and promoting education, without leaving any for himself. He hadn't even brought much money for this long trip.
At least the Turtle Shell Golden Heart could give him ten gold coins a day, which was enough for food...
Talon said to Chen:
"Let's find an inn to stay."
Chen took half a step back, frowning:
"Wait, I'm helping you, and you're not even covering food and lodging?"
Powder also put her hands on her hips, looking at Talon in a very thrifty manner:
"Exactly! We're here to help you. It's already good that we're not charging you money, and you're not even covering food and lodging!"
Talon covered his forehead. If only Chen wasn't the only one who could help him find the Grand General, he would definitely fight Chen. Helpless, Talon looked at Chen:
"Alright, I'll book the inn. What do you want to eat later?"
Chen started thinking about his Murk Wolves again:
"Anything. Just get some Noxian specialties. I remember you Noxians like to eat Murk Wolf meat!"
Talon's smile didn't reach his eyes, and his cheek twitched slightly:
"That stuff isn't cheap. You really know how to pick."
Powder said haughtily:
"Just say whether you'll eat it or not."
Talon, eager for help, could only agree:
"Eat..."
...
After settling in, they had a full and satisfying dinner.
Powder rubbed her stomach:
"It's not bad, but magic marsh frog meat is better."
Chen shook his head:
"Crimson Raptor meat is better!"
"Gromp!"
"Crimson Raptor!"
"Gromp!"
"Crimson Raptor!"
"..."
At this moment, Katarina, who usually spoke little, suddenly plunged her dagger into the table.
The other three flinched, thinking Katarina was about to get to the point and discuss the serious business of finding the Grand General, but she said faintly:
"What do you know? Murk Wolf is the best. The meat is delicate, refined yet powerful, without the dryness of beef, the greasiness of pork, or the gamey smell of lamb. It's the best meat, it's just that this place didn't prepare it well!"
Chen and Powder clapped their hands lightly and said in unison:
"A connoisseur indeed."
Just then, Talon finally couldn't take it anymore. He looked at Katarina:
"Why are you joining them in this? We have important business!"
Katarina turned her head away, pretending not to hear.
Chen waved his hand:
"Alright, it's time to talk business. To find Du Couteau, you first need to answer a few questions so I can make a judgment."
Finally getting to the main topic, Talon was somewhat relieved:
"Okay, ask away."
Chen wasn't too familiar with the current situation in Noxus and didn't know how it differed from the League of Legends universe's storyline, so he asked his first question:
"Who is the highest authority in Noxus right now?"
Talon immediately replied:
"King Darkwill, why do you even ask?"
Chen recoiled, immediately realizing the problem:
"The timeline is still this early? Swain hasn't had his revolution yet!"
As he said this, Chen looked at Talon. Talon met his gaze, and upon hearing 'Swain' and 'revolution,' he was completely bewildered:
"What are you saying? Revolution?"
Chen didn't rush to answer. He looked at Katarina again, but Katarina's head was slightly turned, and her eyes subtly darted away. From her micro-expressions, Katarina seemed somewhat uneasy, as if trying to avoid something.
Chen didn't state it directly; a micro-expression didn't prove much, but he had a feeling that Katarina was definitely involved in her father's disappearance.
Chen decided to observe Katarina first, then he looked at Talon beside him:
"You don't know that Swain is planning a coup?"
Talon immediately stood up from his chair, full of doubt at Chen's words:
"Do you know what you're saying?"
