The other members of Riser's peerage froze for a brief moment, their minds struggling to process what they had just witnessed.
A Knight of Riser Phenex has been retired.
The system's announcement echoed through the battlefield, snapping them out of their shock and forcing them back into action. They quickly regrouped, abandoning hesitation and shifting into a coordinated formation as they began to construct a new attack strategy.
Arthur watched them calmly.
He made no effort to interrupt.
From his perspective, it did not matter what they attempted. The difference in power was simply too overwhelming.
Two of the Rooks stepped forward, their bodies suddenly swelling with demonic power as one of the Bishops enhanced them. Their energy output visibly increased, their strength rising to an entirely new level. If their baseline had been a ten, the enhancement pushed them far beyond it, closer to fifteen or even higher, their muscles tightening as their aura flared violently.
At the same time, the rest of the peerage launched a barrage of magical attacks from the front, flames, projectiles, and curses converging toward Arthur in an attempt to overwhelm his vision and create an opening.
It was a textbook pincer maneuver.
Arthur did not even bother to dodge.
A thin, shimmering layer of Anti-Magic spread across his body, forming a translucent coating of black scales that flickered faintly under the incoming attacks. The moment the spells made contact, they dissolved instantly, erased before they could even reach his skin, leaving no trace behind.
The first Rook reached him.
Her fist shot forward with tremendous force.
Arthur caught it mid-air.
Without slowing down, he twisted his body, using her momentum against her as if she weighed nothing at all. In one fluid motion, he lifted her and swung her like a weapon, slamming her directly into the second Rook who had been approaching from the opposite direction.
The collision was brutal.
A sharp cracking sound echoed through the battlefield.
The second Rook was sent flying across the courtyard, her body tumbling violently before crashing into the distance.
Arthur did not stop.
Using Shunpo, he vanished and reappeared instantly among the Pawns, still holding the first Rook like a tool rather than a person. He swung her in wide arcs, the sheer force behind each movement turning her into a devastating blunt weapon.
Two Pawns were struck at once, their bodies shattering into fragments of light before they could even react.
Arthur pivoted smoothly, sweeping the legs out from under another opponent and slamming her into the ground with crushing force. Without giving her any chance to recover, he brought his improvised weapon down again, finishing her instantly.
Another Pawn stood frozen, her body locked in place under the overwhelming pressure of [Keen Insight], her instincts screaming but her muscles refusing to respond.
Arthur moved toward her.
"You bastard! Let them go!"
A Knight rushed in from behind, aiming for his neck, believing she had found his blind spot.
Arthur had already seen it.
From the moment she moved, her attack had been laid bare before him, every detail unfolding in slow motion within his perception.
Without even turning, he raised the Rook in his hand.
The blade pierced through her.
Her own ally became the weapon that ended her.
Arthur released the body immediately and stepped forward, his movements flowing seamlessly into his next action.
"Thunder God's Strike."
Electricity exploded outward.
A violent surge of lightning erupted from his body, the sheer intensity of it causing the air itself to tremble as a deafening crack echoed across the battlefield. The two bodies caught within its range were instantly disintegrated, reduced to light before they could even register what had happened.
Arthur deliberately avoided infusing the attack with Anti-Magic. If he had done so, the system responsible for removing defeated participants would have failed, and they would have died instantly.
He had no intention of killing them.
"Who's next?"
At that moment, he released more of his aura.
Not just a portion.
A significant amount.
The black and crimson pressure expanded violently, crashing down onto the battlefield like an invisible storm. Even beyond the barrier, spectators felt a chill run down their spines as goosebumps spread across their skin.
"Two of Riser Phenex's Rooks have been eliminated."
"One Knight…"
"Four Pawns…"
The announcements continued.
Silence followed.
No one moved.
No one stepped forward.
Even Ravel remained frozen where Arthur had placed her, her mind struggling to keep up with everything that had just unfolded.
"No one?" Arthur said, his tone almost disappointed. "What a letdown…"
He brought his hands together.
Then—
Clapped.
The sound alone created a violent shockwave.
The air shattered outward, a powerful sonic force ripping through the surroundings and instantly breaking every pane of glass within the barrier. The pressure was so intense that even Ravel felt her vision blur, her body trembling as nausea threatened to overwhelm her.
Only her Phoenix physiology saved her from collapsing completely, her regenerative ability activating instinctively to stabilize her condition.
The remaining Pawns were not so fortunate.
They collapsed instantly, their bodies falling like lifeless puppets as blood streamed from their ears before they dissolved into light.
The last Bishop remained conscious, barely.
Her body refused to move.
Her will had already broken.
Arthur appeared in front of her.
With a simple motion, using the back of his hand, he struck.
Her head separated cleanly.
She vanished in light.
---
Ravel slowly tried to step away.
She knew she was protected by the rules, but what she had just witnessed had shaken her completely. Every instinct she had told her to leave, to put distance between herself and the monster that had just dismantled her brother's entire peerage.
Before she could get far—
Arthur appeared in front of her.
She froze instantly.
"Y-you… you can't hurt me!"
She raised her arms instinctively, fear evident in her voice.
Arthur tilted his head slightly, confused.
"Why would I hurt you?"
Seeing her condition, he decided to try something.
A gentle golden flame appeared in his hand.
The Flame of Life.
He placed his hand on her head.
The moment the flame touched her, Ravel's body reacted.
Warmth spread through her instantly, a soothing, comforting sensation that erased all fear and tension. Unlike ordinary fire, this flame did not burn. It nurtured, healed, and embraced, resonating deeply with her nature as a member of the Phenex clan.
Her breathing steadied.
Her body relaxed.
Her fear vanished completely.
In its place remained a faint blush and a quiet certainty that the person in front of her could not possibly be cruel.
Arthur withdrew his hand after a moment.
Unbeknownst to him, the flame did not disappear.
It was absorbed.
It merged with her own fire.
Something within her began to change.
"A-Arthur-sama… wait!"
He had already turned away, but he paused.
"May I… meet you again later?"
Arthur glanced back and smiled.
"Of course."
Ravel's face turned red again.
She nodded quickly before retreating, deciding to leave immediately and undergo whatever transformation had begun in a safe place.
---
Arthur continued forward.
Moments later, he reached the Headmaster's office.
Riser was waiting.
His Queen stood beside him.
"Now, Yubelluna!"
The moment Arthur appeared, a massive barrage of magic was unleashed, hellfire raining down in overwhelming volume, covering every possible angle of escape and turning the entire area into a storm of destruction.
Arthur did not stop.
He walked forward.
The attacks parted around him, erased or deflected as if they did not exist.
Then—
He vanished.
He reappeared behind Riser.
"Hey, Riser…"
Riser spun instantly, retreating in panic, while Yubelluna rushed forward to shield him.
Arthur smiled slightly.
"Just kidding. This was my real target."
He moved again.
Appearing beside her instantly.
His arm pierced through her chest.
There was no resistance.
No delay.
A clean, precise strike.
A hole remained where her heart had been.
Arthur kicked her body away immediately, preventing any chance of revival through Phoenix Tears.
"Riser Phenex's Queen has been eliminated."
Arthur looked back at Riser.
"That leaves just the two of us."
And he smiled.
