Ekron, I discover is his name. It's an odd name. I have never heard of anybody named that. What does it even mean? I take advantage of my mother and quickly stand and grab the seat for her while pulling another for myself. Not so subtly inviting myself.
In person, closer I mean. He looks like a dream, a perfect specimen of a human. His eyes are a deep hazel with some flakes of green. His brows are thick but not overly so, lips slightly full and soft looking. His skin is a smooth bronze that looks flawless and soft to the touch, his height when he stood looked two inches shorter to mine. He could be roughly a six-two while I stand at six-four.
I remember looking at my ex-girlfriend and thinking she was the one. She was a very beautiful woman I grew up with and almost everybody in the entire pack thought we would end up together. And even after she found her mate I always thought I would never find another like her. That not even my mate could compare.
But, looking at this human before me I realize just how wrong my thought process was. Sure, my ex was good looking but my mate... wow.
My wolf howls in joy so loudly that my mother flinches and sends me a nasty glare but am only too happy and completely ignore her as my wolf and I approve of the mate bond and have accepted our bond. Now we only need to wool said mate.
"So, doctor, how are you finding our little town so far?"
"It's small but surprisingly accommodating, I honestly believe we will get along just fine" His gaze when he meets mine is intense and unwavering. I get the feeling that he is used to being the dominant one in the room.
He absolutely has no submissive bone in his body.
wow. This will be fun.
"And what made you want to come to such a place, I imagine it's not your usual style no...?" My mother lunar bless her heart just had to open her mouth. Ekron chuckles and gives her his attention. His gaze is playful but serious as he holds hers with a raised eyebrow.
"And how would you know what my usual is?" He looks down a second and refocuses on my mother. I file his confidence for later assessment as my pride for a brave and fierce mate swells in my chest.
No wonder my mother hates him. He is a human alpha in his own right.
"It's true I grew up in the city, but I am actually of rural birth. Also, I have always moved about from the beginning of my practice. I prefer small towns because they harbor darker secrets, hence more problems and I feel people are more inclined to need phycological help because of how conservative these towns are. Most people especially teenagers might find themselves trapped or oppressed so to say." He elaborates as I nod, seeing his reasoning.
He actually turns to not only be good looking but also intelligent and I smile softly at that.
"Wow you're actually right, small towns can be quite unexpected..."
He hums and gulps down the remainder of his wine and I suddenly notice how he is drinking in the daytime with this heat. Sure, the temperature is good in the restaurant, but I can still feel sticky just sitting here. and besides... wasn't he drinking last night too?
Not that we have a problem with our mate drinking, heck he could be an alcoholic and my wolf and I still wouldn't give a fuck.
"Matthew, what do you do, what are you into exactly?" He asks while flagging down the waitress and asking for another bottle of wine which has me frowning slightly.
"Oh, Matthew here is our town mayor" Mom answers on my behalf like am a small child who's afraid of speaking to adults and I grit my teeth in annoyance.
"Wow I did not expect that... really? So, you're a politician wow cool. I don't think I know any politicians..." He pours a full glass of wine as he frowns cutely.
We spend a few borrowed minutes talking about this and that and I discover that Ekron isn't exactly a very friendly person. He comes off as cold and straight to the point and maybe that is why most people would consider him proud and arrogant. But overall am quite impressed with him as a person. His very smart and can hold a conversation and am insanely attracted to him.
As luck might have it, I also manage to secure a date with him tonight. We plan to meet with others for a few beers and am more than happy with the arrangement. By the time we leave the restaurant am reluctant to leave and Ekron has finished two more bottles of wine, yet he looks as fresh as ever. Not in the least intoxicated and he has had four bottles since he sat down, I notice.
When we get to the pack, my wolf has calmed down and am ready for a pack meeting. I proceed to tell everyone of the good news formally and ask them to make him as welcome as possible. The pack is mostly happy about my singleness coming to an end but some of the elders remain behind to discuss the issue of an heir, since Ekron is a male mate.
Honestly Ekron and I will discuss that when the time comes but for now, I just want to enjoy our time without the hustle of kids. I want kids but not now.
I postpone the discussion for when am mated and have told him about us.
Am in my room and laying down thinking of how our night out is going to turn out when a cough from my bedroom door has me frowning from being disturbed. I was enjoying the mental image of holding my mate in my arms. I look up and it's none other than Austin who seems to have healed considerably.
"..."
"...I expect an apology actually"
"In my defense you also have a mate and understand how it feels when someone challenges you over said mate"
"I didn't challenge you though. I was trying to protect you and your mate"
...right.
Of course he's right, am just too proud to admit I was wrong in the first place.
Austin sighs and enters my room without permission and it makes the hair on my skin stand to attention. A snarl pulls up at the corner of my mouth, and I think he sees it and retracts back to the door. My eyes flash a violent orange before I calm my wolf down.
"Sorry man, my bad" He mutters an apology and I take that as my cue to return the gesture.
"Am really sorry for your arm. I didn't think at all and thank you for that... He would've been terrified if he saw me like that" I apologies as sincerely as my pride lets me.
Austin nods and grins widely. "So, how does it feel to finally meet your mate?"
"OH man it's like..." I go on and on and Austin just smiles at me indulging me because he is happy for me.
