Mason, I think is his name.
Mason, If that is even his name has this weird color of eyes. It's a color I cannot describe exactly. Something you wouldn't pinpoint to any actual color on earth. It's like somebody made a doll and fused in every other color to make it look real. I always got the feeling that he wasn't fully human. He had such features that humans would better describe as other worldly.
He looked manufactured. Surreal. Like he was artificially generated.
He was ODD. For lack of a better word.
"I have something to tell you but am not sure if you're even going to like it or even believe me. Look, just don't be upset..."
"Stop stammering and just say it. We both know the front you wear isn't exactly to your liking so just drop it and be who you are for a few seconds. Am sure you can manage that past your smiling" I almost snarl at him.
Wow he really picked a bad day to be in my way.
Mason, again not sure if it's his actual name or am projecting actually for a milli second is too stunned to smile or react, and on another day, I would have smirked or snorted but right now am just grinding my teeth enough to prevent my fangs from dropping.
My wolf still wants to dig his paws in the earth and ground himself and this mannequin is preventing him from doing just that.
"There's nothing I want more than to shade this stupid face off and rip all of you a new one, but I can't. Not because I don't want to but because I can't." He pretty much snarls that sentence out and am left with a brow raised in wonder because just then his features actually contorted into a very angry human.
"That's more like it. If you're going to talk to me, at least be real while at it."
And he actually rolls his eyes at me. I can feel the growl slipping before I am conscious of it. My alpha vibrating at the disrespect from the human pup mixed with my own reserved anger mingling in. He seems to realize what he did and backs up a little then mumbles something and then moves closer again.
I don't have time for this. My patience has run out for the day, and my feet are turning back to the slope when he blurts it out.
"Your mate isn't what he seems. Don't trust him." I freeze and turn to look at him, and I know my eyes are a blazing orange again. Am this close to ripping someone's throat out today and he just made candidate.
"It's true, his not human. He might look like it but he's not." he rumbles on and my hand shoots out to grab his t-shirt, almost bunching up the entire material in my hand. My wolf was actually aiming at his throat, but I didn't think he deserved to die yet.
"How dare you, you insolent pup" My voice when it comes out is something between human and animal. The human grips my arm and I hiss at his touch. It's an uncomfortable feeling that seems to come from the depth of my soul. I recognize that it's my mate bond protesting other human contacts and I shove him away.
He falls to his ass and is grumbling as he smiles through the pain. It's an odd thing to witness and I decide I don't want to ever cross paths with this human ever again.
I start to walk away but his voice stops me again.
"He will ruin you; he will ruin this entire pack and everything you know he will turn upside down. He won't care that you're his soulmate. He won't love you; His kind don't love." My feet have completely turned to face him now. He has stood and is dusting the dirt from his pants. When he's done, he looks me dead in the eyes, all traces of humor completely gone. He's like a whole new person as his gaze locks in with predatory focus and I narrow my eyes at the feeling. My body automatically squaring up to the incoming threat.
"You think your love is enough for him?" He lets out a mocking laugh as he throws his hands upwards.
"Even if he wanted you too, his very nature wouldn't allow him. And there's something wrong with him, something even I can't pinpoint. Anyways, I only wanted to warn you to be careful. You and your people have let me exist in this forsaken little town of yours for so long and I feel obliged to at least warn you of this. Don't let the mate bond make you stupid. He's not as innocent or sweet as he looks." And with that he puts his hands in his pocket and leisurely straws down the hill.
I want to follow him and turn him around and shake him so much that his teeth rattle but am more focused on what he said.
He's nature won't allow him.
His nature?
What did he mean by that. What nature?
"Lunar, I honestly believe you wouldn't give me a soulmate that didn't share my fate. Whatever the circumstances are I will not choose another"
I send a prayer up to Lunar as I gaze at the stars above. I wasn't one for religion but with the way things were going, I had to trust the mate bond. If all else fails at least I can trust that he's my mate and that we share the same fate. The same destiny.
