Chapter 116 - Chapter 116: Surveillance Cameras, Unknown Intruder

After settling Tali and just returning to the vicinity of his rented apartment, Hunter sensed something was slightly off.

His memory was now far beyond that of an ordinary person, and in a sudden flash, he felt something was different.

He immediately feigned a stop and pulled a pack of cigarettes from his person.

Hunter took one out and slowly lit it.

Then he stood unhurriedly by the street and began to smoke.

His gaze seemed to scan the surroundings as if by accident.

Soon, Hunter's eyes paused slightly as he looked toward a corner diagonally across from the apartment road.

He saw that a surveillance camera had been installed there at some point.

That camera hadn't existed before; he didn't know when it had been installed.

Hunter was very certain of this point.

Because ever since he discovered that the apartment he rented

was the same apartment where the protagonist of léon: the professional, Léon, and the little girl Matilda lived,

Hunter had always been extremely careful when coming and going.

He had even scouted the area around the apartment early on.

He had also arranged more than one escape route for himself in case he encountered danger.

In the future, Matilda's father would get greedy and touch the drugs belonging to Stanfield, the corrupt cop who fought narcotics while also embezzling and selling them.

As a result, Stanfield would send men to kill the entire family.

This apartment building would consequently become one of the primary locations of conflict.

Hunter was just being prepared!

Particularly that night when he was preparing to go to Steve's villa to steal.

As it happened, he encountered Stanfield's subordinates coming to Matilda's home.

Hunter guessed they were likely there to deliver drugs.

The plot of léon: the professional should also take place in about a month or so.

And now, it had already been about twenty days since Hunter went to Steve's villa and stole those two safes.

By his calculations, the plot of léon: the professional was about to begin.

After Hunter locked onto that camera, he took a few more subtle glances at it.

Once he confirmed the direction it was pointed, it happened to capture the entrance of his apartment within its frame.

Hunter's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.

"Did Stanfield have his men install that camera?"

He was certain there were no shops or similar places over where the new camera was installed.

Furthermore, the camera's field of view perfectly captured the entrance to the apartment Hunter was renting.

He couldn't help but wonder if that corrupt cop Stanfield had someone install it.

However, thinking that it probably wasn't targeted at him, Hunter didn't let it bother him.

As he thought, he quickly finished his cigarette.

Hunter didn't actually have much of a smoking habit, so once the cigarette was finished,

he crushed the butt and walked into his rented apartment building!

He soon followed the stairs and arrived at his front door on the sixth floor.

Just as he walked up from the stairs, Hunter sensed a familiar cold gaze.

He knew it was the hitman Léon, who lived across from him, secretly peering outside through the peephole again.

Since he was used to it, Hunter didn't pay it much mind.

He pulled out his key and opened the lock to his home.

The moment he returned to his residence, Hunter's expression turned somewhat ugly.

"Someone has been in here?!"

The room looked much the same as it had when he left over ten days ago.

But with his five-dimensional attributes being more than double those of an average person, Hunter's sense of smell, hearing, and observation were not only sharper,

but his memory also exceeded that of ordinary people.

The instant he entered the room and turned on the light, Hunter subconsciously scanned his surroundings.

In the small apartment, several spots were immediately and instinctively caught by him.

There were subtle differences from when he had left more than ten days ago.

"On the sofa, the towel I draped there has changed positions."

"On the bed, there are several creases that weren't there before I left."

"The cabinet is tilted by two degrees, and the books on top of the TV are slightly out of place."

"Someone has been in my home!"

Hunter's heart sank, but he quickly controlled himself and restored his expression.

He first walked to the refrigerator, opened it, and inspected it carefully.

There wasn't much in the fridge—just a few bottles of drinks and a small amount of canned food.

Because he had a private space that could better preserve items, fresh ingredients wouldn't mold even if placed inside it.

So, this refrigerator Hunter bought and kept in the apartment was actually just for show.

After a careful check, he could be sure that these drinks and canned goods in the fridge hadn't been touched.

But considering someone had broken into his home, to be safe, Hunter quietly used his private space to put all the drinks and canned food inside.

He planned to find a trash can and throw them away later.

Then, he took out identical items from his private space and replaced them in the fridge.

He then picked up a can of Coke, opened it, and drank while walking toward the bathroom to grab a broom.

He pretended to clean the house, while in fact, he was checking if any wiretaps, surveillance cameras, or similar devices had been installed in his apartment.

It wasn't that Hunter was being overly cautious!

It was because he knew all too well what things he had done over the past period of time.

Helping people illegally modify cars, dismantling stolen cars, and laundering them were considered minor matters.

Secretly exposing the FBI's investigation into Dominic, causing the FBI to return empty-handed,

and also helping Dominic quietly take millions of dollars worth of stolen electronic products

and smuggling them to Boston to secretly fence them—these were no small offenses.

If caught, according to US law, sentencing Hunter to several years in prison would certainly be no problem.

Of course, speaking of the past few months,

the boldest thing Hunter had done was beating the master thief Charlie to the punch.

He had stolen over thirty million dollars worth of gold bars and millions of dollars worth of other wealth from Steve.

This job alone was enough to land him twenty years in a US prison.

Although Hunter, after transmigrating, no longer had much of a concept of good and evil,

that didn't mean he was willing to be sent away.

No matter who was secretly watching him, Hunter had to determine their identity as soon as possible.

Then, he would either deal with the person or deal with the threat!

Hunter's good life had only just begun.

With a hint of unease and a surge of anger, he quickly began to 'earnestly clean' the apartment he hadn't returned to for over ten days..
