Diana was quiet for a moment. She turned her face slightly and pressed it against his neck, which was the version of honesty she used when she wanted to say something and hadn't decided whether to say it with words.
"When Theo punched you," she said finally.
Rex waited.
"I know you let him," she said. "I figured it out afterward..."
"The angle was wrong for someone who didn't know it was coming, and you always know when things are coming."
"You didn't say anything," Rex said.
"I was deciding how I felt about it," she said.
"And?"
Diana lifted her head and looked at him directly. "And I think you let him do it because you wanted the outcome it produced, and I think the outcome it produced was useful to you, and I think the fact that I was in that street when it happened was part of what you calculated."
Rex looked at her.
"Is that wrong?" he said.
Diana considered this for a long moment.
"It's not wrong," she said. "It's accurate."
