Nadia's Point Of View
Seraphina moved closer, stepping directly into my field of vision. She loomed over me like a dark, vengeful shadow beneath the yellow entryway lights, her presence suddenly overwhelming. Her eyes burned with an intense, terrifying light I had never witnessed in her before… a fury that seemed to radiate from somewhere deep within.
"Are you insane?" She leaned down slightly, and her voice emerged as a low, dangerous hiss that cut straight through my skull.
My brain misfired completely. The stinging on my left cheek radiated a violent, throbbing heat that blurred my vision at the edges. I literally couldn't believe it. The reality refused to sink in… that Seraphina, this girl, this nobody, this mere worker, had actually swung her hand and slapped me. Me! Nadia Corvanni! The girl who had never been touched in anger, never been challenged, never been anything but worshipped and feared.
