For a second, I forgot where I was, forgot the weight of all those eyes watching from around the table. My gaze snapped to Azriel, searching his face for some sign this wasn't what it sounded like.
Replace him?
What the hell was happening?
I blinked hard, trying to process the implication, the sheer audacity of what had just been said. But beside me, Rose shifted closer. "Boss," she whispered, her voice low but laced with barely contained disbelief, "what is happening?"
I swallowed against the tightness in my throat, my eyes still fixed on Azriel's unreadable expression. "…I don't know."
Rose let out a quiet breath, and I could feel the tension radiating from her. "Why does he look like he's about to swallow the Chairman whole?"
