But I needed this. I didn't want to lose control. Scared of what I might do.
Since getting drunk or distracting myself with his current girl hadn't worked, this was the only option left. So I provoked him, knowing Lucien would do his best to bruise me.
He hit me again. Harder this time—a crack across my cheekbone that should've split skin and drawn blood.
But there was nothing. No sting. Just.. Nothing.
And it annoyed me, because I wanted to feel something. Pain—anything other than the restless thing boiling inside me. Something I could feed off, something that would keep me from losing control completely.
Lucien's breathing grew heavier with each blow, his anger building, feeding off itself. He kicked, slapped, and aimed for every part of my body he thought would make me flinch.
It didn't.
Except for the slight shifts of my body with each impact.
