Chapter 85 - Ash on the Wall

The first arrow hit the east parapet before the last of the witness ash had cooled on Grimridge's wrists.

It did not come with a war cry or a charge behind it. It came fast and clean out of the dark beyond the wall, struck stone hard enough to ring, then snapped and fell into the inner yard as if Briarhusk wanted sound more than damage. A second arrow followed a heartbeat later, then a third, each one aimed too high to kill and too low to be dismissed.

Alden had watched the oath and answered it at once.

Cassian did not rush.
