The silence stretched for several heartbeats.
"I don't know how strong your father truly was or how many patriarchs were truly involved in the massacre. The reports we got were fragmented, contradictory, and impossible to verify."
Felix's voice became quieter.
"But I know this much. All those old patriarchs went into seclusion after that night…" He paused. "Every single one of them, except the Sage."
He couldn't come to any conclusion about that man.
Had he abstained from the massacre, or had he simply been strong enough to walk away unscathed?
There was no way to know.
Damian gulped down another large sip of the alcohol, his hands tightening on the glass.
Felix continued without stopping.
"And many of the Imperial family heads of that generation were never seen again after the massacre."
Damian's breathing stopped completely, his entire focus locked on Felix's words.
