Chapter 172 - Chapter 172: Dumbledore is a Step Late

Because the appearance of Lord Voldemort provided some buffer for Quirrell, although it didn't completely eliminate Quirrell's free-fall speed, it greatly reduced the impact of him hitting the ground, so he didn't lose his life because of it.

However, although Quirrell survived, the fall caused him extremely serious injuries—both his legs were broken, seven or eight ribs were fractured, and his internal organs suffered significant damage.

After getting the answer she wanted, Adelaide slipped away quietly. She originally intended to rush back to the Ravenclaw Common Room as quickly as possible to show her face more, but when she reached the sixth floor, a familiar figure suddenly appeared before her—it was a frantic Hermione.

"Adelaide, where were you just now? Why weren't you in the Great Hall!"

Hermione's voice revealed obvious worry and dissatisfaction.

Adelaide was startled by Hermione's sudden appearance, but she quickly regained her composure and explained with a slight smirk, "Oh, I had a stomach ache, so I went to the bathroom... Why are you here? The Halloween feast should have started, right?"

Hermione sighed helplessly upon hearing this and said, "Professor Quirrell just rushed into the Great Hall and said a Troll had gotten into the dungeons. Dumbledore told the students to go back to their common rooms first. I didn't see you in the Great Hall and was afraid you didn't know the news, so I came out to find you."

Adelaide frowned slightly and said concernedly to Hermione, "Next time something like this happens, don't run around! It's so dangerous! It's not safe outside right now. Let me walk you back to Gryffindor Tower."

Hermione originally wanted to say something more, but after Adelaide took her hand, she swallowed her words and could only silently follow Adelaide back to Gryffindor Tower.

The two arrived at the entrance of the Gryffindor Common Room. As they were about to part, Adelaide noticed that Hermione's mood seemed a bit low, so she took the initiative to give Hermione a warm hug and comforted her softly, "Don't worry, it's just a Troll. Dumbledore and the others will handle it."

Hermione's face instantly turned bright red, and she stood there somewhat at a loss. Adelaide gently pushed her into the passage behind The Fat Lady's portrait.

When Adelaide returned to the Ravenclaw Common Room, she found it unusually noisy inside.

She looked closely and saw that some lunatic had made a mistake while brewing a Potion, causing the entire common room to be enveloped in a thick cloud of pink smoke.

This pink smoke not only made the common room blurry but also emitted a pungent smell that made it a bit difficult to breathe.

Adelaide was very happy about this. Could this be Merlin's intervention!

She didn't even need to make up an excuse; anyway, no one could see anyone else tonight.

"Adelaide, where were you just now!"

Cho Chang, as if she had X-ray vision, accurately grabbed Adelaide's arm through the smoke and pulled her to her side.

"I had a stomach ache and went to the bathroom earlier, and I happened to run into Hermione when I came out," Adelaide explained quickly.

"She said a Troll suddenly appeared in the dungeons and Dumbledore told the students to return to their common rooms, so I walked her back to Gryffindor before coming back."

Cho Chang nodded after hearing this and placed a plate of fried chicken gently in front of Adelaide.

Seeing this, the corners of Adelaide's mouth curled up slightly, revealing a joyful smile—as expected, Cho Chang cared for her the most.

She unceremoniously grabbed a piece of fried chicken and began to feast, while not forgetting to pull out her wand, wave it gently at the pumpkin lanterns within her line of sight, and mutter an incantation.

As her incantation sounded, the originally small and exquisite pumpkin lanterns seemed to be enchanted, rapidly expanding and growing larger and larger, until they were over a person's height.

The light from the pumpkin lanterns dispersed some of the smoke, making the vision near the lights clear.

"Wow!"

The surrounding students let out a burst of amazement. They were attracted by this magical scene and then followed Adelaide's example, taking out their own wands and casting the Engorgement Charm on the surrounding pumpkin lanterns.

For a moment, the Ravenclaw Common Room was filled with laughter. The atmosphere, which had been somewhat gloomy and tense because of the Troll's intrusion into Hogwarts, instantly became cheerful.

While everyone was playing, Professor Flitwick suddenly came to Ravenclaw Tower.

"Miss Grindelwald—oh, goodness, what's going on here? What's with this pink smoke? And why have these pumpkin lanterns all become so large?"

Professor Flitwick waved his wand to suck away all the pink smoke, then his gaze fell on Adelaide, and he said somewhat seriously, "Adelaide, Professor Dumbledore has something important to see you about. Please come with me to his office immediately."

Adelaide's heart tightened, but on the surface, she pretended to look bewildered, looking at Professor Flitwick innocently while secretly muttering in her heart: Tsk, that old fox Dumbledore, he could even guess it was me?

This was already the third time Adelaide had come to the Headmaster's Office within two months of the start of school. She couldn't help but mutter to herself: This probably isn't the end. At this rate, I'm afraid I'll have to come several more times in the days to follow.

When she pushed open the door and walked into the room, she found that many people had already gathered in the Headmaster's Office.

Besides Headmaster Dumbledore sitting in the main seat, there was also Professor Quirrell, who was as pale as paper and sitting in a wheelchair, looking very weak; Professor Snape sat in a chair with a grim face, seemingly in a very bad mood; Professor Sprout was full of rage, her face flushed with anger; and Professor McGonagall's expression was somewhat complex and hard to read.

Everyone's eyes focused on Adelaide the moment she stepped into the room.

Dumbledore reached out with a smile and said to her, "Adelaide, please give me your wand to check."

Adelaide raised her eyebrows slightly upon hearing this, but she still obediently pulled out her wand.

As she handed over the wand, a thought suddenly flashed through her mind: Fortunately, she was prepared... Speaking of which, Madam Pomfrey's medical skills are truly superb! Quirrell can actually come out in a wheelchair so soon.

Dumbledore used the Prior Incantato on Adelaide's wand, but the shadow of the dead Troll did not appear; they only saw a pile of pumpkin lanterns that had been cast with the Engorgement Charm.

Dumbledore shook his head with a bitter smile, "Adelaide, what are you doing?"

"Oh, I saw that everyone in the common room was in a bad mood, so I thought about using the Engorgement Charm I just learned to add some festive atmosphere to the common room."
