I completely lost track of how long we sat there waiting in the quiet lobby.
Even Dario, who had been pacing around the room like a restless animal, eventually gave up somewhere along the line and finally sat down. It seemed to be well over a couple of hours before the door of the medical room finally pushed open, breaking the agonizing silence.
We all jumped to our feet immediately. The head doctor stepped out into the lobby, and before I could even take a couple of steps forward, Griffin and Dario were already right in his face, not giving the poor man any breathing room at all.
"What's the update, Doc?" Griffin demanded.
At the exact same time, Dario bluntly asked, "Is he dead or alive?"
The doctor let out a tired sigh and held up both of his hands, gesturing for them to calm down and step back. But his silence only made them glare at him even more, their expressions turning darker by the second.
