Vex slowly raised his hands toward the heavens, his movements deliberate and eerie, mimicking a necromancer commanding the dead to rise.
In response, the shadows spread across the devastated courtyard surged upward like a violent tidal wave. Yet, this sea of darkness did not rise to attack Raiking. Instead, it violently imploded, engulfing the Grandmaster until he was completely entombed within a swirling cocoon of pitch-black Qi.
In the next breath, the shadows encasing him dispersed, dissipating into the wind to reveal a breathtaking new transformation.
His once pitch-black robes had been entirely inverted. They were now a pristine, blinding white.
Even his faceless obsidian mask had undergone a metamorphosis, shattering away to reveal the right half of his striking, handsome features. Despite the dense, suffocating Shadow Essence that continuously bled from his new garments, his figure completely lacked the malicious, evil aura his previous image had projected.
Rather, his new appearance was almost elegant. Ethereal, even. He looked like a divine entity born from the absolute depths of the abyss.
"Stars of Umbra," Vex intoned as he slowly opened his right hand. Above his palm, the surrounding darkness condensed, forming a single, perfectly spherical orb of pure, liquid shadow.
He brought it to his lips and gently blew forward.
The dark sphere drifted upward into the night sky, floating toward Raiking with the deceptive innocence of a dandelion seed caught in the wind. But as it neared the descending Emperor, the orb violently vibrated. It split into two. Then four. Then a dozen.
Within seconds, Raiking and his invisible Vanguard were completely surrounded by a floating constellation of pitch-black orbs, effectively creating a three-dimensional minefield in the sky.
Vex's eyes narrowed. He vanished.
He didn't move; he simply ceased to exist on the ground and instantaneously rematerialized mid-air, stepping out of an orb directly behind Raiking. His body was coiled like a compressed spring. In his grasp, the shadows elongated, solidifying into a wicked, razor-sharp blade of condensed dark matter.
With blinding kinetic force, Vex propelled himself forward, aiming to cleanly decapitate the Emperor.
Just as the shadowy edge was a hair's breadth from Raiking's neck—the world seemed to slow to a crawl.
CLANG!
A deafening metallic ring shattered the silence. Ezmelral's Domain of the Formless Blade had intercepted the strike flawlessly. A violent spray of black and silver sparks cascaded through the air in slow motion as Vex's ultimate weapon ground against an invisible, impenetrable wall of Sword Intent.
Without missing a beat, Vex's form blurred. He teleported to an orb below Raiking, springing upward with an upward slash.
CLANG! Deflected again.
He teleported to an orb on the left. Then the right. Then directly above. Vex became a relentless, blinding storm of pristine white robes and black blades, ricocheting between the floating shadow orbs at speeds that defied mortal comprehension. He launched hundreds of lethal strikes in the span of a few heartbeats, turning the airspace into a localized hurricane of slicing shadows and erupting sparks.
Yet, Ezmelral didn't falter. The ethereal hum of her invisible steel sang a perfect, unbreakable defense, swatting away every single one of the Grandmaster's ultimate attacks with the casual precision of a royal guard sweeping dust from a throne.
And amidst this apocalyptic barrage of teleportation and clashing magic?
Raiking remained completely unfazed.
He didn't look at Vex. He didn't flinch at the sparks raining down upon his shoulders. With his left hand still casually resting in his pocket, the God of Death simply took another slow, methodic step down his invisible staircase.
Another ripple of Level 1 Entropy pulsed outward, silently erasing the next floor of the Silent Blade Clan's temple into grey ash.
"H-how can that be?" Karthix muttered, instinctively taking a single, shaky step back.
"I can't believe he withstood the Grandmaster's True Divinity..." Thamriel stammered, his mind struggling to grasp the vast difference in power.
They weren't alone in recognizing the overwhelming gap. Vex realized that his blinding speed was completely ineffective. A major change in strategy was necessary.
"You won't even face me directly?!" Vex shouted with a sinister laugh, his battle-fueled excitement soaring as he teleported to a shadow in the courtyard below. "Interesting... INTERESTING!"
He raised his clawed hand, aiming at the Emperor descending from the sky.
"Umbra's Arrows of Annihilation!" Vex intoned.
In response, the hundreds of floating shadow orbs surrounding Raiking—the man who was effortlessly wreaking havoc on the once-thriving assassination clan—began to morph violently. They turned into deadly, jagged arrows, pulsating with a lethal aura strong enough to kill even a True Divinity cultivator.
"You still dare to ignore me?!" Vex demanded.
Raiking didn't pause for even a moment. He simply continued his descent, his void-black eyes piercing into the Grandmaster's soul, conveying one unspoken truth: You are not even worth acknowledging.
"Your arrogance will be your downfall!"
Vex yelled, closing his fist. That was the signal the arrows awaited. In a blinding blur, their pent-up fury was unleashed, converging on Raiking from every direction.
Yet, despite that focused rage, destiny remained unchanged. The fate of the shadow arrows was identical to every attack before them: rendered utterly ineffective by the invisible hum of Ezmelral's Sword Intent.
"Impossible!" Karthix gasped.
"Grandmaster, let us assist you!" Thamriel shouted, desperately starting to channel his mana.
"No, you don't."
A sharp zzzt! of static filled Karthix's ear as the Storm Dragon suddenly reappeared directly in front of the imposing behemoth.
BOOM! A lightning-infused fist collided brutally with Karthix's face, sending the armored half-giant crashing backward through several ruined buildings.
Vex paid no mind to the devastation behind him. His attention was entirely consumed by Raiking. He launched himself into the air, deploying an array of ultimate Shadow Magic attacks in an attempt to impede the intruder's approach.
It was a fruitless endeavor. Regardless of the attacks Vex unleashed, Raiking was mere moments from landing on the courtyard ground.
The situation was desperate.
The Grandmaster turned to his final option. He retrieved a forbidden pill—a gift from the Demon King himself, reserved for the most critical emergencies.
That moment had arrived.
Vex swallowed the pill. Instantly, a cataclysmic surge of Shadow energy erupted from within him. The overwhelming pressure he emitted was so intense that even the Storm Dragon paused its assault on Karthix and Thamriel, compelled to acknowledge the terrifying power now unleashed upon the world.
[Peak of True Divinity Stage -> Early Demigod Stage]
"I-I can't maintain this form for long, but I'll make it last just enough to defeat you!"
Vex shouted as he poured every ounce of his mana into one final, defiant effort. The shadows—not just within the Silent Blade Clan, but extending throughout the entire Northern Demon Region—began to resonate with his determination.
He gathered every bit of available darkness, layering and concentrating it to create a massive Shadow Avatar that mirrored his ethereal form. This was a power reserved solely for True Demigods.
Vex teleported directly into the chest of the towering Avatar, its shadowy head piercing the storm clouds above.
"DIE!" Vex commanded.
The Avatar drew back its massive arm, delivering a devastating, earth-shattering punch aimed directly at the descending Raiking. The kinetic force of the fist cut through the air, emanating a shadowy wave of total annihilation.
But it was too late.
In that fleeting moment, Raiking's foot gently touched the courtyard ground.
"You've lost," Raiking declared.
A soft whoosh echoed throughout the Clan.
It was the sound of the colossal Avatar's arm slowly disintegrating into dust, swept away by the wind before it could even touch Raiking's robes.
But it didn't end there. Not only was the Avatar's entire form fading away, but the ground beneath it began to dissolve. The walls, the temples, the guard towers—the entire clan turned to nothing but falling grey ash.
And so did Karthix. So did Thamriel. And so did Grandmaster Vex himself.
They had no time to scream, no time to comprehend what had occurred. They simply vanished, replaced by an absolute, profound silence.
The once-renowned Silent Blade Clan, a formidable force with connections to every major region on the continent, was wiped from existence in the time it took to draw a single breath. It was an event no one would dare believe possible unless they had witnessed it firsthand.
---
What a tragic fate for Vex. He truly believed his name would echo through history, convinced this glorious, world-altering battle would be remembered.
Yet, there was no one to witness it for miles around.
Only a Dragon, a Sword Spirit, and the God of Death stood silently upon a newly formed tomb of ash.
