The morning was clear over the emerald-green sea as the Team Azula ship approached the coasts of the Earth Kingdom. The humid air hit the wooden hull, and the sails creaked as if breathing. On the deck, Ren—now in his complete form, a perfect mix of Yin's cold elegance and Yang's calculating vitality—watched the horizon with his arms crossed behind his back. His dark hair fell over his forehead with millimetric order, while the sunlight reflected in his amber eyes, giving them an almost supernatural glow.
Around him, the entire team worked in silence.
But that silence had a new texture:
expectation,
curiosity,
fear.
Especially since Ren had revealed that Suki would accompany the group from now on… and that he was, in effect, two people in one.
The dynamics were changing as fast as the waves.
Ren knew it.
Ren felt it.
Ren was taking advantage of it.
"Gather with me in the map room," he ordered suddenly, without raising his voice.
Azula looked up, with that feline pride that characterized her.
Suki interrupted her training, wiping the sweat from her neck with a soft movement.
Keiko and Suri exchanged a quick glance, still tense… though increasingly intrigued by him.
One by one, they all entered.
The map room was lit by an oil lamp that gave off a faint warmth. On the main table, the maps of the Earth Kingdom were spread out like a large, unfolded skin: cities, villages, trade routes, fortresses, distribution canals, fertile zones.
And in the middle of that world of ink… Ren placed a small wooden seal shaped like a white lotus.
"Today," he said, with the calm of someone reciting an inevitable truth, "I will explain what our next move will be."*
Azula, leaning against a pillar, crossed her arms. That posture that mixed defiance with a need for closeness.
"Are we heading into Ba Sing Se?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "Or are we going to hunt the Avatar first?"*
Ren smiled, and the entire room seemed to relax its contained air.
"No. Not yet. Something essential is missing before taking such a big step. If we want to conquer… we must first possess."
Suki frowned.
"Possess… what?"
Ren took the white lotus seal and moved it over the maps as if caressing the future.
"The Earth Kingdom is too vast to subjugate militarily," he explained. "The cities are enormous, the routes are infinite, and the population is so diverse that not even the strongest fire could bend them without turning everything to ash. And I don't want ash. I want… obedience."*
His fingers stopped on a chain of coastal cities: Makapu, Chin, Gaoling, Vang-Su.
"We will start with something more effective than an army."
The girls unconsciously drew closer.
"We are going to create," Ren said with a calm that gave you goosebumps, "a mercantile company."*
Surprise ran through them all like a wave.
"A… company?" Sokka would have shouted that word, but here only Suki whispered it in disbelief.
Ren nodded.
"The Earth Kingdom is addicted to commerce. To silk, to tea, to metal, to medicine, to minerals. Everything they consume moves millions of coins every month. And we," he touched the map softly, "are going to give them products they can't refuse… at prices they can't ignore."*
Azula narrowed her eyes.
"You want to invade the Earth Kingdom with… money?"
Ren approached her.
Azula instinctively straightened her back, as if her body responded before her mind.
"With economic power, Azula," he corrected, in that low voice that melted her without her showing it. "The world belongs to whoever controls the flow of resources. Not to whoever throws the first fireball."*
Keiko, ever practical, raised a finger.
"What will we sell?"
Ren smiled with a dangerous mix of innocence and genius.
"Fire Nation technology. Portable stoves. Boilers. Long-lasting oil lamps. Corrosion-resistant tools. Accelerated cultivation methods. And… something more."
The room stopped.
"What more?" asked Suri, in her dry, direct voice.
Ren held up two fingers.
"Security."
Silence.
"The villages of the Earth Kingdom constantly suffer at the hands of bandits, guerrillas, corrupt dukes. And we," he placed the white lotus seal on a coastal village, "will offer protection. Not as conquerors… but as allies. As trustworthy friends."*
The words "trustworthy friends" reverberated like a soft poison.
Suki, who knew better than anyone the impact of protectors on a vulnerable people, felt a shiver run down her spine.
It was brilliant.
It was terrifying.
It was Ren.
"We will start with this port," he said, pointing to a spot on the coast. "A small, humble place, neglected by the nobles. There we will establish the first branch of the White Lotus Company."*
Azula turned her face to him.
"That name…"
Ren leaned closer to her, so close his warm breath brushed her ear.
"It has history," he whispered. "And one day… it will dominate the world more than any Fire Nation banner."*
Azula swallowed.
Suki watched him with a mix of admiration, unease… and something more intense.
Suri and Keiko exchanged new glances, no longer of distrust, but of recognition.
They all felt the weight of a plan much larger than their initial mission.
Ren looked up and his expression changed:
from strategist to conqueror.
"This is the first step to unite the world under a single system. Not with tyranny… but with dependence. When everyone needs what we offer… power will be ours without a single flame."
Azula smiled slowly.
Suki took a deep breath.
Suri lowered her gaze, thoughtful.
Keiko bit the inside of her cheek, interested.
Ren placed a hand on the map.
"Ladies… prepare yourselves. Today our invisible empire is born."
And in that room, lit by a simple lamp, four women felt they had just become the first pieces of a silent revolution.
Night had fallen completely over the ship, wrapping it in a rhythmic silence marked only by the sway of the sea against the hull. The torches in the passageways burned down with a soft crackle, and the moon—high, white, cold—entered through the small window of Ren's cabin, bathing the room in a silvery glow.
Ren lay on the futon, but he didn't close his eyes. His breathing was slow, controlled, almost meditative… although in his mind, the pieces never stopped moving.
The formless shadow of his thoughts settled behind him, as if it were another presence. Yin and Yang. Himself, unfolded into infinite possibilities.
"The company…" he murmured internally.
A name not yet decided, but a clear goal: to infiltrate the Earth Kingdom not with fire, but with coins, contracts, trade routes, and carefully sown favors.
First: the team.
His team.
The women he had chosen… and molded.
Azula
The image of his sister appeared first.
Her firm figure, her golden eyes, the arrogant curve of her lips when she thought she had control.
Azula was pure power. Ambition without limits.
The perfect blade to cut through any enemy… or to hold the throne when the time came.
But in a mercantile business, her role would be different:
"Director of Force and Expansion.
The hand that will open doors that others close.
The shadow that will remind the world that even the economy can burn."
Ren smiled slightly, imagining the pleasure she would feel in having legitimate authority over territories, allowing her to "govern" them without needing to conquer them by force.
Suki
The next appearance was softer, warmer.
Suki.
The Kyoshi leader, who carried discipline on her shoulders and honor in every breath.
Her face appeared in his mind with clarity: the focused gaze, the straight posture, the way her voice trembled only when she spoke of her people.
Ren inhaled slowly.
"Ambassador.
Someone with moral credibility.
The kind face of the project."
The villages of the Earth Kingdom would trust Suki before any other firebender.
She was a bridge, a mediator, a banner.
And besides… her growing attachment to him made her terribly useful.
Ty Lee
Ren closed his eyes, letting Ty Lee's smile invade his thoughts: bright, open, almost naive… and yet, capable of destroying an army with pressure on the right points.
Perfect for what he needed.
"Public Relations.
Natural charmer.
The one who gets in where no one else can."
With Ty Lee as the cheerful face of the company, any suspicion would dissolve.
Her sweetness was a weapon.
One that Ren knew exactly how to direct.
Mai
The memory of Mai arrived like a silent shadow: firm, expressionless, with that calm that seemed to challenge the whole world.
Mai needed no approval.
Mai needed no company.
Mai needed… nothing.
And because of that, Ren knew she would be invaluable.
"Risk Management.
Passive espionage.
Oversight of accounts and movements that must remain hidden."
Mai saw what others ignored.
And she did it without any emotion: perfect for handling dangerous information or shady contacts.
Ren let out a satisfied sigh.
Suri
The silhouette of Suri appeared like a solid, dangerous shadow.
A body marked by discipline, a sharp gaze, a silent presence.
A Dai Li assassin molded to disappear.
And now, a spy at the service of fire… or at his service.
"Operative Intelligence.
Internal information from the Earth Kingdom.
Deep infiltration."
Suri was a ghost with skin.
The ideal weapon for extending invisible networks among merchants, nobles, spies, and soldiers.
And above all… her conscious loyalty made her different.
Ren respected her for that.
And he would use that loyalty with surgical precision.
Keiko
The last memory formed with the smell of sweat, metal, and effort.
Keiko, muscular, strong, fast.
A woman made of impact and energy.
The moonlight imagined her almost like a living statue: powerful hips, defined arms, steps with the exact weight to take down anyone.
"Private Security.
Personal protection.
Captain of escorts in hostile territory."
If there was anyone who could clearly make a presence and protect valuable assets, it was her.
Ren intertwined his hands behind his head.
The final piece clicked into place.
**The six women.
Six roles.
A single company.
A silent empire under his command.**
Azula: expansion.
Suki: diplomacy.
Ty Lee: relations.
Mai: information.
Suri: espionage.
Keiko: security.
A perfect team, carefully tuned…
each one depending on him.
Each one caught in his emotional web.
Ren opened his eyes.
"We start tomorrow," he whispered to the dark cabin.
A white flame danced on his fingers for a second before extinguishing.
And so, in the stillness of the ship traveling through dark seas, Ren closed his eyes knowing that everything was proceeding as he had planned:
The world would not be conquered by fire…
but by the will of a single man and his carefully chosen pieces.
