Chapter 19 - Wrong Car, Right Date

Beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep.

That annoying sound dragged me out of sleep.

I hit the alarm to stop the noise, pulled off my earphones, then turned on my phone.

11:00 seriously??!!!!!

I sprang up immediately and unlocked my phone.

That was when I saw his message.

I hope you are getting ready for the date. Also can you send the address?

Ohhh.

Date.

That's why I panicked.

To be honest, the first time I panicked was because this is literally the earliest I've woken up since I got here. I know what you're thinking—it's only been two days, but somehow it already felt like two weeks.

Now if you'd excuse me, I needed to panic properly.

THE DATE!!!!

Oh my gosh.

I can't believe I totally forgot about that.

I gotta go shower ASAP!!!!

I grabbed my phone and quickly typed in the hotel name because there was absolutely no way I was about to start directing somebody. They'd probably end up lost.

I prepared my outfit for the date which was a chic-looking dress that I pulled out from my bag. It was a wine-red backless dress, covered in tiny sparkling stones.

I dropped it on the bed and rushed to the bathroom.

I took a quick but comfortable steamy shower and by the time I got out, it was already 11:30.

I picked up my phone and sent him a quick text.

I will be ready soon

After that, I started doing my makeup. It was a date after all.

When I finished, I let my hair down, oiled it, brushed it, then did a side parting.

Wearing the dress was honestly a little stressful, but eventually I got it on.

I grabbed my sweet-scented perfume and sprayed it all over my body. At some point I nearly started choking, so I stopped.

Maybe that was enough perfume for one human being.

I wore my strappy high heels with thin straps and sparkling stones that caught the light, grabbed my purse, and headed for the door.

I brought out my earphones and played an energetic song to kill my anxiousness.

Then just like that, I stepped out and locked my room behind me.

I used the elevator and soon enough I got downstairs.

Then stepped outside the hotel.

I stood there for a second before spotting a black car and immediately assuming it was him.

I walked toward it and tried opening the door.

Locked.

That was when my phone rang.

"Hello? I'm literally in front of your car, will you open the door already?" I said loudly into the phone, hoping he'd hear me.

"What are you talking about? That's not my car. I just got here. Turn around, my car is the white Venza."

My face instantly turned red with embarrassment.

I slowly turned around and finally spotted his car.

"Ohhh."

I quickly hung up and awkwardly waved at the owner of the black car. He rolled down the window just slightly.

"I'm sorry about that, I thought you were my date…"

Before I could finish, he drove off like I wasn't even speaking.

Okay.

Rude.

I walked toward Daven's car and he unlocked it for me. I hopped right in.

"Wooooow," he said, genuinely surprised. "You look absolutely stunning."

"Why thank you, but this good-looking chick made a fool of herself five seconds ago, remember?" I said, still embarrassed.

"Come on, don't beat yourself up too much. Besides, this is Las Vegas. Anything happens here," he said with a smile.

"Meaning?" I asked, confused.

"It's a crazy city. Now onto our date—I'm taking you to a fair. What do you say, mademoiselle?" he asked smoothly.

"Well, what can I say? You're the captain of the ship, aye?" I smiled.

"Yup, I am, aren't I? And the captain says fair it is."

He drove off.

I seriously couldn't believe I was so worried about this date. Now that I think about it… this might actually be fun as hell.

And honestly? I still couldn't believe how playful he was.

It's like they say—don't judge a guy by his long-ass messages or his inability to use emojis.

I stared out the window as Daven sped down the road a little too fast.

"Aubrey, if I'm going too fast just tell me to slow down," he said.

"No, the speed level is okay," I replied, still looking outside.

"Wow, really? That's exactly what Vanessa said before she started vomiting," he laughed.

"And who is Vanessa?" I asked, completely caught off guard.
