"Grandpa, Daddy, where did you go play? Why didn't you take Mengmeng with you?"
Mengmeng saw Jiang Haichuan and Jiang Ning enter from the back, quickly dropped her toys, and ran over.
"Good girl, Mengmeng. Come here for a hug. Daddy and Grandpa were just taking a walk by the river."
Jiang Ning opened his arms and embraced the running Mengmeng, affectionately ruffling her hair.
"Daddy, you didn't take me either. I wanted to see the river too! Are there lots of cute little fish in the river?" Mengmeng asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"Yes, there are," Jiang Ning nodded.
"Ah, then Daddy, quickly, quickly take me to the river to see the little fish, okay?" Mengmeng grabbed Jiang Ning's arm and shook it playfully, acting spoiled.
"Alright, let's go. Daddy will take you to see the little fish."
Jiang Ning stood up, took Mengmeng's hand, and prepared to leave.
"Honey, I want to go too," Su Meng said, standing up with a smile.
"Alright, let's go. I'll take you to the place where I used to swim all the time."
And so, Su Meng linked her arm with Jiang Ning's, and Jiang Ning held Mengmeng's hand with his other. Together, they walked out of Jiang Ning's old family home.
After Jiang Ning and the others left, Jiang Haichuan hurried into the kitchen.
Ye Shulan was busy preparing lunch. Seeing her husband enter, she asked, "How did it go? What about the kids' parents?"
Jiang Haichuan smiled slightly. "Wife, calm down first."
"Don't be silly, Jiang Haichuan! You don't know me. I'm Ye Shulan, a woman who's seen it all. In this village, everyone knows me. You think I'd be scared by a few words? Just tell me!"
After briefly summarizing the situation, Jiang Haichuan said, "Alright, alright. Since you're so eager, I'll tell you. First, our son is very successful and not some freeloader. Second, our daughter-in-law is even more impressive—she runs a massive company, hundreds of times larger than the one our son used to work for. Lastly, your precious granddaughter Mengmeng was adopted from an orphanage by our son and daughter-in-law; she's not their biological child."
Ye Shulan stared at Jiang Haichuan in shock. "What? Our son is successful? Our daughter-in-law is even more so? And Mengmeng is adopted?"
Jiang Haichuan nodded. "Wife, I have even more explosive news. The 'Love's Sin' dance we did together last night? The male lead and female lead in that dance were our son and daughter-in-law."
"What?" Ye Shulan felt as if a thunderbolt had struck her. Her mind went blank, and she nearly fainted.
Jiang Haichuan rushed forward and steadied her. "Honey, didn't you say you've weathered storms? How can a few little things scare you into a swoon?" he said with a mischievous grin, his arm around her.
After regaining her composure, Ye Shulan said, "Honey, no wonder the dancer in the video looked so familiar. Tell me everything from the beginning."
"It's like this," Jiang Haichuan began. "Remember how our son lost his job recently?..."
He recounted everything Jiang Ning had told him, step by step.
When he finished, Ye Shulan let out a long breath. "Honey, I still can't believe Mengmeng isn't Ning'er's biological daughter. When I look at that girl, especially her nose and mouth, it's exactly how Ning'er looked when he was her age. Maybe her face resembles her mother's, but her nose and mouth are just too similar to Ning'er's."
Jiang Haichuan sighed. "But Ning'er insists he never had any intimate encounters with any girl in college. If we calculate Mengmeng's age, she would have been conceived during Ning'er's junior year."
Ye Shulan was still persistent. "Why don't we just have Ning'er and Mengmeng do a DNA paternity test?"
"Honey, I've already asked Ning'er about it. He said he's never been intimate with any girl before. Besides, so many people look alike these days. We can't just assume they're related just because they resemble each other."
"Ah, what a shame," Ye Shulan sighed. "I really adore Mengmeng."
Jiang Haichuan cautioned, "Honey, don't stop loving Mengmeng just because she's not Ning'er's biological daughter. To us, she's his daughter, understand? This secret stays within our family."
Ye Shulan looked at Jiang Haichuan for his opinion. "Hmm, you're right, dear. Mengmeng is our granddaughter, no matter what. But what about Ning'er? Should we tell him now?"
Jiang Haichuan pondered for a moment. "Let's wait. When Ning'er is properly settled in life, with a family and career, and when the time is right, then we'll tell him."
Ye Shulan nodded. "If I were selfish, I'd never want to tell him. I wish this secret could remain hidden forever. Except for Grandpa, of course."

"Wow, Daddy, Daddy, look! So many little fish! They're so cute!"
Mengmeng was thrilled to be by the river. She ran along the bank, stopping every time she spotted a fish and pointing at it with her finger.
"Yes, Daddy and Mommy see them too," Jiang Ning replied, holding Su Meng's hand as they followed closely behind.
"Honey, did you tell your father everything?" Su Meng asked, looking at Jiang Ning's face.
"Yes, I told him everything. He promised to love Mengmeng just as much as we do, like she's his own granddaughter," Jiang Ning said with a smile.
"But, honey, I never really thought Mengmeng's nose and mouth looked like yours. After Mom pointed it out, I looked closely, and her bridge and lips do resemble yours quite a bit," Su Meng teased.
"Wife, stop teasing me. If you calculate Mengmeng's age, she would have been born when I was a junior in college. And you think I slept with some girl, she gave birth to Mengmeng, and then abandoned her at an orphanage? Do you really think such a melodramatic plot is possible?"
Su Meng nodded seriously. "It's quite possible."
Jiang Ning was torn between amusement and exasperation. "But, wife, I have no memory of ever being with any girl in that way!"
"Let alone my junior year, I didn't even touch a girl's hand throughout all four years of college. Ah, wait, I do remember—I did touch one girl's hand, though."

When we got drunk, we didn't dare go back to the dorm, so we slept in the apartment Su Che had rented. We were so drunk, we ended up passing out on the floor and snoring loudly. When we woke up the next morning, she was gone," Jiang Ning recounted.
"So that's what happened." Su Meng didn't press further, her mind already beginning to weave a narrative.
