Everywhere around the world was in chaos. Two sides were engaged in a massive battle, but it was hard to say it was equal—clearly, one side was losing terribly.
Of course, one side was humanity. On the other side were monsters—in other words, animals that had undergone mutations, resulting in grotesque forms.
"Second division, fall back! It's too dangerous to get that close!"
The second division, consisting of four people, had each undergone special training and faced many trials. But even for them, fighting against a bear-shaped creature was an impossible task.
The mutated beast looked terrifying. Its claws had grown long like swords, and its fur had changed from soft to hard. On top of all that, its eyes were glimmering with a frenzied red light.
"Captain Griff, what should we do now? Firing our guns won't have much effect on this monster. If we retreat, it might cause huge trouble."
Captain Griff, a bulky man with muscles clearly visible even through his clothes, cleared his throat and said:
"We don't have enough firepower. Taking down this monster is almost impossible with what we currently have. So for now, we'll stall it for at least half an hour—until the citizens have fled to the shelters."
Everyone heard him, and the plan changed. They would no longer fight to the death; instead, they would only stall the monster until everyone found safety.
"So… it's safety," one of the four said quietly.
The atmosphere had changed drastically since Finn left them.
Considering the situation, they were laughing… hmm. Was it caused by that void or something my brain made up? Or was it hallucination caused by the Demon's Cradle? I knew it had definitely messed with my mind.
Anyways… let's just go with the flow. After all, Yeger might have done something.
"Oh… another human appeared out of nowhere. Bizarre. I only made a light joke, yet they're laughing like crazy. Are all these humans out of their minds? Or are they just a bunch of dumbheads? But this one might be different."
"Hey, human, tell me—why are they laughing?" the black spider said, its human-like eyes forming a smile. No matter how creepy it looked, it didn't care.
Finn maintained an indifferent expression, but inside, he was panicking.
"Ah… sorry about that, but they're probably just too scared. You know, extreme sadness can turn into laughter, and extreme happiness can sometimes feel like sadness."
"Are you joking with me? You, a peasant, appearing out of nowhere?"
What is this? It doesn't even seem that scary… then why did the Void Seeker activate on its own? Even before the calamity, life was already strange—things like fate and coincidence. But now… it's becoming even more bizarre, with one shocking event after another.
Ah i feel like something very bad is going to happen.
What kind of feeling is this? This feeling is so distant and strange. Everything seems illusional, or am I the delusional one? Being surrounded by my friends and teacher, on the other hand, there is a spider with human eyes. This feeling is really close and familiar, but strangely, I can't remember something really important.
Because I can't remember something really important, is something very bad going to happen?
Isn't it meaningless if I don't create my own meaning since I'm living?
Ah... since my young age, I have been struggling with myself to find who I really am or what the meaning of my birth is.
But lately, I realized that I wasn't born carrying my own meaning. But I was born to create my own meaning.
Finn was standing still with his indifference, but suddenly he decided to interrupt the black spider's bullshitting.
"Hey spider, since you are from the so-called Demonic World, can you come back to it?"
The black spider showed a surprised expression but still chose to answer. It might have felt something strange about this pale-looking young man in front of it.
"I can make that happen because I am originally from the Demonic World, but unfortunately, I have been sent to the Desolation, and here I am now."
As the black spider was talking, Finn interrupted it one more time.
"Then send me there! You said you guys are giving us a chance to strengthen ourselves. If it's really true, then send me there! Or are you defying your boss's words he said earlier? Hmm... he might send you back to your Desolation if you violate his orders."
Everyone showed shocked expressions, as they couldn't believe what they heard.
"Finn, are you really going to that place? Is it even possible for a human being to live there? Why are you risking your life for us?" Hanna and the teacher questioned him with panicked faces.
However, Yeger said something even more outrageous.
"Then I will be going together with him. It should be within your capability, right?"
"Yeger, you shouldn't do that," Finn said, but Yeger just casually walked beside him.
"HAHAHAH... Humans are so interesting. I like you two. If it's your will, then go."
As the black spider spoke, the background of the normal scene changed into a portal that looked like something seen in games and movies. The portal was green in color but constantly changed its color, sometimes deep green and then bluish green.
"Yeger, Finn, you two stop there! If you two are going, I am also going!" Hanna stepped forward to stand beside the two of them.
"Don't talk to me now. I'm a grown girl, so I will do whatever I want to do. So it's useless to stop me now."
This silenced the two of them as they stopped talking, just stared at each other, then at Hanna. After that, a long sigh escaped from their mouths.
"As a teacher of three great students showing up for each other when the situation is dangerous, if I don't go with them, I will be ashamed as their teacher, so I will also be going!"
"Teacher Nathan, shouldn't you stay here and protect the other students?" The three of them showed rightful expressions, but it was to no avail.
"They will be fine since they are many in numbers, and the mutated flies are as weak as normal ones. So choosing to protect you guys is the priority, since you are going to a totally unknown place. So I will be your guardian."
With that being said, a total of four people decided to start the journey of saving their Earth, searching for the power to dominate the enemy that decided to possess their world.
They might reach the fame of heroes or reach the conclusion of their end...
