When he finished, Uri's eyes widened and he clapped his hand over his mouth.
It was the first time Kai had ever seen him react to his flaw for what it was. For the seconds he had been speaking, he hadn't reacted at all, as though it were a strange trance, but the moment he stopped, the realisation of what he had said seemed to crash into him.
He turned to look at Kai, just as Kai felt Rami's hand freeze against his back and Uri's eyes filled with tears, "Sorry...I am sorry. I didn't mean to - I know you wanted to - I couldn't help it."
Kai grimaced back and avoided looking up at Rami's face, "I know you can't. It's ok. I was going to tell them everything anyway, so...I guess that's now." He forced himself to smile consolingly and risked a glance at his family, repressing the words he wanted to really say:
I wanted to tell them myself. In my own words and in my own time.
