Recalling historical data he had once reconstructed in his mind, Bregud found it strangely amusing what he was about to do, and a faint smile formed at the corner of his lips.
"The current situation—?"
He asked his superior about the state of the world under attack. For some reason, his gaze naturally turned upward.
"As recorded in history, the United States was the first to mobilize its military and enter combat. President Branferry is airborne. The Pacific Fleet is engaged with the enemy at sea. Russia has evacuated civilians toward Siberia and deployed its main forces near Moscow, now in combat. China is engaged across multiple regions. The EU nations are also in the midst of battle. In the Middle East, nuclear war has begun. In South America and Africa, civilians—driven by fear and suspicion—have entered conflicts in the name of ethnic survival.Just as history states, they plunged Terra into chaos within a matter of hours."
The situation resembled a single ant challenging a herd of elephants.
With their technology, perhaps they could have brought that overwhelming disadvantage onto equal footing. But soldiers remain soldiers, regardless of era or dimension—that truth never changes.
Bregud could not act on his own, ignoring his superior's orders. Even if he could, it would lead to a court-martial. It would be a crime.
As he absorbed the state of the world into his mind from within the red fluid, he bit down on the absurdity—that saving people, in this case, would be considered a crime. Crushing that feeling between his teeth, he moved both arms, activating his vessel—the HM—and proceeded with the mission.
