Despite Adrik's strict surveillance, as the afternoon began to fade, Soha went out to stand alone on the balcony. Soft twilight light was spreading across the surroundings from the bosom of the sea. Her hair was blowing in the open breeze, and her eyes held endless exhaustion alongside a heap of emptiness. Right then, Adrik came up silently from behind.
Suddenly, Adrik wrapped his arms around Soha from behind, buried his face near her neck, and whispered with a strange sense of ownership. Even though Soha startled and tried to pull away, she could not budge an inch from the stronghold of his sturdy embrace. Looking toward the blue waters of the sea, a cool, mysterious smile rested on Adrik's lips, which made Soha's heart tremble even more. She realized that this balcony, cloaked in the guise of golden sunlight, was actually nothing more than a golden cage for her.
At that sudden touch from Adrik, a muffled gasp of fear escaped Soha's throat. Pressing a hand against her neck, she trembled as she looked back, only to find that same demonic and confident smile on Adrik's lips.
Amidst the sound of the ocean waves, Soha's own heartbeat echoed loudly in her ears. Glancing at Adrik once, her chest twisted from within she understood that despite a thousand attempts, she would never be able to free herself from this cage of love wrapped in a world of darkness and crime. When Soha realized that neither this golden-lit balcony nor the calm ocean breeze could ever free her from Adrik's watchful gaze and this inescapable darkness, a stream of salty tears rolled down her cheeks. Looking out at the blue ocean waves, memories of her free and independent childhood flashed through her mind. Yet today, she was bound hand and foot to a man for whom love meant nothing more than pure possession and a ruthless world of crime.
Adrik moved his hand away from Soha's shoulder and stepped right in front of her. His gaze held a strange, mesmerizing spell that would make anyone's heart race with fear. In a voice that was remarkably soft yet as hard as stone, Adrik said:
"Why do you torture yourself like this, Soha? Do you still not understand that the outside world is not meant for you? Out there, there is only dust, fear, and betrayal. But in this dark empire of mine, you reign as a queen. This golden cage is for your protection, not your imprisonment."
Trembling with a mixture of disgust and terror, Soha lashed out in a bitter voice:
"Protection? You call this protection, Adrik? Holding someone captive against their will, stripping away their choices, and keeping them in a constant state of suffocating terror—this cannot be love! This is a sickness, a form of psychological sadism!"
Not a single blink crossed Adrik's eyes at Soha's fierce defiance. Instead, he stepped even closer, his long fingers gently brushing against the soft skin of her chin. Yet even that touch held no warmth—only the biting cold of absolute ice. Smiling faintly, Adrik whispered:
"Call it a sickness or whatever you please, but I cannot survive without this sickness, nor will I ever let you live without it, Soha. You are the only one with the courage to bring light into my empire of darkness, which is why I can never grant you permission to step outside my shadow."
The air grew heavier as twilight's reddish glow began to sink into the depths of the sea, transforming the surroundings into an eerie, haunting landscape. Soha knew that arguing with this man or trying to escape was as futile as shattering her head against a stone wall. She simply closed her eyes in silence, while Adrik's inescapable and terrifying declaration echoed endlessly in her ears: "You are mine, and mine alone."As night began to fall, shattering the silence of the balcony, Adrik gently pulled Soha into his arms and brought her back inside the room. Outside, the night darkness merged with the waves of the sea, taking on a strange, haunting appearance.
Standing beside the bed within the room, Adrik gave a cold yet shadowed command:
"It is late, Soha. There is no room for defiance now. Go to bed and lie down quietly."
Hiding her tears, Soha looked back at Adrik with a gaze full of deep hatred and resistance. Standing rigid as stone, she whispered:
"I will never bow down to your tyrannical commands, Adrik. You can trap me within four walls, but you will never buy my soul."
Seeing her rebellious form, Adrik smiled faintly. Leaning in close to Soha's face, he whispered in an extremely low and frightening voice right beside her ear:
"Whether it is your soul or your body everything belongs to me. And you already know very well what the punishment for disobedience can be, Soha."
Following Adrik's chilling threat, a shiver wracked Soha's entire body. She knew all too well that Adrik's warnings were never empty words; every single syllable carried a terrifying consequence.
Paralyzed by fear and suppressed grief, Soha's throat went dry. She no longer had the courage to voice any defiance. Trembling, she slowly walked over, curled up on the edge of the bed, and let a continuous stream of salty tears slip from the corners of her eyes.
Standing in the dim light of the room, Adrik watched her in silence for a long moment. Then, turning off the lights, he walked toward the heavy bedroom door, locked it from the outside, instructed the maid to maintain her watch, and retreated to his own quarters. Left alone amidst the deep surrounding darkness, Soha remained trapped within the cruel cage of her fate.
Following Adrik's blood-red and ice-cold threat, an ominous current of electricity coursed through Soha's entire body. She felt down to her bones that Adrik's warning was no ordinary verbal threat; hidden behind it was a blood-chilling and terrifying consequence that she could never escape, no matter how hard she tried. The demonic stillness in Adrik's eyes made her realize just how steep the price of disobedience could be.
Paralyzed by fear, humiliation, and overwhelming grief, Soha's throat went entirely dry. Even though her chest was twisting with agony, she no longer dared to utter a single syllable. All language of self-defense or protest died right inside her mind. Trembling violently, she slowly walked over to the corner of the bed and curled up tightly. The moment her head touched the pillow, an unceasing stream of salty tears began to roll down from the corners of her eyes, hidden safely in the darkness.
In the dim and muted light of the room, Adrik stood like a stone statue, watching her silently as she wept. There was no remorse or softness in his expression only the strange, twisted satisfaction of absolute ownership. Without wasting another moment, he turned off the main lights of the room. With heavy strides, he walked out and locked the door shut from the outside with a heavy thud. Before leaving, he issued a strict warning to the maid to ensure there was not the slightest lapse in her vigilance.
Left entirely alone amidst the deep, hushed darkness, Soha remained trapped. The roar of the open sea and the night breeze slipping through the gaps in the window only served to heighten her utter isolation. She understood then that these luxurious four walls and this golden cage were truly nothing more than another name for her captivity, with no path of escape left open.
