"Lapras, use Ice Beam."
The opponent's Primeape was fairly strong, but it was still far behind Sam's Lapras.
Primeape had already focused as much as it could, yet there was still no way to avoid Lapras's attack.
The Ice Beam was fast and precise, instantly freezing Primeape into an ice sculpture.
A beautiful ice sculpture appeared on the battlefield. Lapras's Ice Beam was not only powerful but also visually stunning.
"The Primeape has lost its ability to fight! Lapras wins! The winner is Sam, the player from Pallet Town!"
After easily defeating his opponents in two consecutive rounds, Sam began attracting the attention of the TV station. As soon as the match ended, a reporter and cameraman approached him for an interview.
"Hello, player Sam. You've successfully won two rounds. Are you confident about the remaining two rounds of the qualifiers?" The reporter conducting the interview was a mature woman in her thirties.
"Confidence? I didn't come to the Indigo Plateau Conference just to reach the main tournament. My goal is to win the championship. So the next two rounds should go just as smoothly as these first two."
The reporter clearly hadn't expected such an explosive answer. She immediately became excited and respectfully held the microphone closer to Sam.
"Player Sam seems very confident. Can you tell the audience where your confidence comes from?"
"It's simple," Sam said with a confident smile. "Because I have absolute confidence in my own strength."
In front of the TV, Misty looked at Sam's interview with confusion.
"Sam's interview feels a bit unlike him. He's not someone who likes to be in the spotlight."
Based on Misty's understanding of him, this kind of post-match interview style didn't really match Sam's personality.
Brock stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"I think Sam must have his own reasons for doing this."
Misty and Brock were right. There really was a reason Sam had changed his usual style during the interview. It all started with the phone call he received from Professor Oak the day before.
"Sam, the Indigo Plateau Conference is a huge stage. You must seize this opportunity and promote yourself as much as possible."
Professor Oak's voice came through the phone.
"Promote myself?" Sam didn't fully understand why Professor Oak had asked him to do this. But he decided to follow the advice anyway. After all, Professor Oak would never harm him.
This was the real reason Sam had changed his usual style during interviews.
After the interview, Sam wiped the sweat from his forehead. To be honest, acting so confidently in front of the camera felt a little awkward.
But there was one thing he had to admit.
Showing off like that was surprisingly satisfying.
In the Water Field, Rock Field, and Grass Field, Sam encountered little trouble during the first three qualifier rounds. But in the final Ice Field, Sam finally met a difficult opponent.
"Player Sam is in trouble. Sam, who never needed to use a third Pokémon in the first three qualifiers, has finally been forced to bring out a third Pokémon in the Ice Field."
"Honestly, I'm really looking forward to seeing Sam's third Pokémon."
"Both Dratini and Lapras are extremely rare Pokémon. I wonder what Sam's third Pokémon will be."
---
Pokémon: Poliwrath
Type: Water / Fighting
Strength: Gym-level (mid-tier)
Potential: Gym-level
Sam's opponent this time, Ashin, was probably the strongest rival he had faced so far at the Indigo Plateau Conference. All three of Ashin's Pokémon had reached Gym-level strength.
Sam's Dratini, which battled first, was defeated by Ashin's Cloyster without much resistance.
After Lapras defeated Cloyster and Dewgong consecutively and fought Poliwrath, it was eventually defeated due to exhaustion.
Looking at Ashin, who stood ready for battle, Sam smiled.
"Ashin, you're very strong. If you hadn't met me, I believe you would have achieved good results at this Indigo Plateau Conference."
"But unfortunately, now that you've met me, your run in this conference ends here."
"Stop talking nonsense! Send out your third Pokémon! My Poliwrath will never lose to your Pokémon!" Ashin shouted.
"Poliwrath!" The Pokémon echoed loudly after hearing its trainer's words.
"You're full of energy," Sam said calmly, "but the outcome won't change."
Sam snapped his fingers.
"Come out, Venusaur."
"It's here! Sam's third Pokémon has appeared—Venusaur! This should be Sam's final Pokémon!" the commentator exclaimed.
Ashin's expression turned grim. His luck was truly terrible. Both Cloyster and Dewgong, his Ice-type Pokémon, had already lost their ability to fight. The only one left was Poliwrath, a Water-type Pokémon.
If Sam knew what Ashin was thinking right now, he would probably tell him with a smile that it didn't matter. Even if Cloyster and Dewgong were still able to battle, the outcome would not change.
In front of Venusaur, these Pokémon simply weren't strong enough.
"Venusaur, use Razor Leaf."
Countless green blades appeared around Venusaur like floating scimitars.
The dense swarm of leaves was so overwhelming that anyone who saw it would feel intimidated.
Seeing Venusaur surrounded by so many Razor Leaves, Ashin was so shocked that he momentarily forgot to give any commands.
The scene was simply breathtaking.
The commentator swallowed nervously before speaking, his voice trembling.
"What am I seeing? Is this really Razor Leaf? I've never seen a Grass-type Pokémon control such a massive number of Razor Leaves! Poliwrath is in serious danger!"
"Finish it, Venusaur," Sam said calmly.
The countless green blades instantly launched toward Poliwrath.
Poliwrath fired Ice Beam from its mouth, trying to stop the Razor Leaves from approaching. But there were simply too many.
The first blade broke through its defense.
Then the second.
Then the third.
Soon, all the Razor Leaves pierced through the defensive line.
The entire audience stared with wide eyes, afraid of missing even a single moment.
Poliwrath cried out in pain under the storm of blades.
The outcome was already decided.
"Poliwrath has lost its ability to fight! Venusaur wins!"
