Guilt flickered in Voren's eyes, quick, almost imperceptible, before vanishing as if it had never been there at all. His expression hardened, his voice wintry and detached. "That was an old tale six years ago," he said flatly. "She should have moved on."
His gaze slid back to Seraphine, sharp and dismissive. "From what I've seen, she deserved it."
Seraphine snapped. Rage surged through her like wildfire, burning through every fragile wall she had built to survive. With a savage scream, she lunged for him.
Her fingers wrapped around Voren's throat, her claws extending instinctively, piercing skin before anyone could react. For a split second, shock rippled through the room before Voren moved.
