Chapter 6 - Chapter six

There wasn't a single remorse in her expression. Her "actions. The saucy blinking of her long eyelashes. She was not ready to apologize to anyone. But I couldn't deny that she had a kind of aura. She was daring, audacious and self confident absolutely.

" I know what's on your mind." she interrupted my thoughts. She puffed a stream of smoke through her lips. " you are wondering the reason for my incredulous behavior." she tossed the exhausted cigarette away. " it's my culture. My pattern. I just live like that. I don't need to explain more, do I?" Her eyes took a darker shade. She seemed different at the moment. She seemed like she was scary.

". Do you feel good that you smoke?" she had probably not seen the question coming.

". You do have guts, baby girl." she uttered marvelled. " do I have to like everything I do?"

" you can choose how your life becomes."

" well I think that's a story for another day."

Then I knew she wouldn't acknowledge discussing the issue further.

" can't you create a beautiful life for yourself?" I avoided her glare as I went in.

". A beautiful life…" I overheard her mumbled.

The first few days I spent there kept me with the thought of returning. In a space of weeks, my ideology changed. Going back to the orphanage was definitely not a means to sought out my destiny or dreams. I had eventually been let out into the outside world. The next option was choosing a path for myself. After I had achieved my aims in life then I would go in search of Sister Theresa, express my profound appreciation, gift her and take care of her forever.

I was superly determined to work things out. I was capable. Miss Melissa in my opinion, was content with keeping me and watching over me.

I opted that she was a merchant seeing that was visited on occasions by persons of all sorts.

She was well to do, that I could tell. But her means of earning a living was not completely explainable. It seemed sneaky in a way. I couldn't deny that we were really getting along. Though there were undetailed aspect of her, she was doting, loving to be with and a part I won't dare forget, she was strong.

I could remember vividly a hot afternoon that we went shopping for some stuff I would be needing. Thank God the mall was cool and that served as an avenue for me to relax. We got dresses, shoes and other necessities. I pushed the trolley while she picked whatever she desired. While we were done doing that, Miss Melissa went to use the bathroom and I held the bags containing the goods. Unfortunately, one of the it slipped out of my grip and some things rolled away. I picked them up till one was left and it found its way to the foot of a rough looking man.

". Excuse me sir. Sorry about that." I gestured to the apple as I bent to get it. I had touched it,his gigantic feet came on my hands.

". Ouch." I exclaimed. Then he snickered that it exposed a set of dirty dentitions. I was disgusted.

" did you ever think I would let you go scot free?". He laughed again.". Every action you take , you pay a price." I struggled to liberate myself.

" you are such a weakling." he spoke.

Just then she surfaced. Miss Melissa.

" how dare you taunt my baby girl." as swift as the speed of light, her leg moved through the air acrobatically and landed heavily on his face. He staggered backwards.

". Damn!!" he screamed.

". ". If you don't leave now I will reap out your entire sense organs.". She threatened.

That experience had intrigued me. It did. Miss Melissa was brave. I wanted to be like that. When en it turned exactly three months I was there, Miss Melissa got me a new job. A weird one. One that had left a permanent mark on me. One that made me a different person. One that had taught me the true definition of endurance. Of bravery. Of genuinity. Of never giving up.
