Chapter 140 - In Which The Elves Know Something

The problem with learning you were living with an apocalyptic entity was that sitting around thinking about it didn't actually change anything.

We'd spent last night processing, accepting the inevitable without saying it out loud, and this morning we'd woken up with the same impossible situation and three gates still waiting to be closed.

So we'd made the only decision that made sense.

Keep going.

Close the gates, complete Void, hope whatever kept it peaceful around me continued working, because the alternative was watching reality collapse anyway and at least this way we had some control over the timing.

Nobody had said it at breakfast.

Nobody had announced "we're continuing the plan to complete an entity."

Mara had just looked at Henrik's tablet showing gate locations and said "São Paulo?"

And Henrik had nodded.

And that was that.

Decision made in silence, like everything else lately.
