Beyond the broken wall, the hall remained undisturbed.
Dust drifted through the pale light surrounding the goddess's statue. Her outstretched hand cast a long shadow across the floor, its fingertips reaching toward five stone altars arranged in a semicircle before her.
A ring rested on each altar.
Arthur slowed his pace.
Five slender beams of light extended from the statue, each connecting to the center of a ring. The beams remained perfectly steady, unaffected by the dust drifting through the air.
From a distance, the rings appeared to be floating above the altars. However, as Arthur drew closer, he noticed that each one rested within a shallow groove carved into the stone.
He recognized them immediately.
His gaze dropped to his own hand, where a similar ring rested on his finger.
'Containment rings.'
Behind him, Jessica stepped over a fallen piece of the false wall.
"What the hell is this place?"
"Don't touch anything," Arthur warned sharply.
