Chapter 397 - TSWH: Chapter 397

Something incredible happened.

The members of the Slick Pirates turned and fled in panic, screaming.

They didn't run to call for reinforcements or alert anyone else.

From the sheer terror on their faces, it was clear they only wanted to escape — to get as far away from Bonam Island as possible.

They abandoned their two top officers without a second thought.

Oboro paid them no mind. He killed both Zidall and Mepon, and using the system's functions, extracted two cards from their bodies: one Skill Card, and one Experience Card.

By now, he knew he had to kill his targets before the system could process and convert their essence into these rewards.

Once he was done, Oboro needed no directions. He walked straight toward the tallest building in town.

Hanging above it was a massive, conspicuous sign — like a giant billboard — and fluttering in the wind was the crew's Jolly Roger… exactly the symbol of the Slick Pirates.

Without a doubt, their captain was inside.

Mepon the Mincer had possessed formidable physical toughness. Even without using Haki, Oboro had found it difficult to injure him using ordinary combat techniques.

Fortunately, his long period of training inside the Sea King's body had greatly advanced his internal energy cultivation and martial arts.

It was a few minutes' walk to the building. Oboro moved at a leisurely pace, in no hurry at all.

Shops that had closed earlier suddenly threw open their doors. People poured out — pirates, shopkeepers, servants — all frantically packing their belongings.

They looked like refugees fleeing a disaster. When they saw Oboro and Dom walking openly under the sun, their faces filled with dread, and they scrambled to get out of their way.

News had spread fast…

Everyone in town was rushing toward the docks, desperate to be the first to leave this place of doom.

"Hm?"

Oboro's eyebrows lifted. He sensed something.

Instantly, he accelerated, shooting forward like an arrow released from a bow.

Dom followed immediately.

Rounding a corner, they looked up and saw a group of men struggling to carry several large treasure chests, clearly trying to slip away unnoticed.

Leading them was a long‑haired man, sweating profusely, his features twisted with malice. This was Yogi the Double‑Headed Serpent, Captain of the Slick Pirates.

Hearing the commotion, Yogi's expression changed drastically. He spotted Oboro and Dom… and immediately ordered his men to drop the chests and form a battle line.

His plan to pack up his wealth and flee had failed!

The appearance of the God‑Slayer on Bonam Island changed everything. It was no trivial matter.

Even if they managed to capture the God‑Slayer and hand him over to the World Government, they would surely be silenced afterward.

Matters involving the Celestial Dragons were extremely sensitive.

Besides, Yogi was an old hand on the seas. He knew exactly how the World Government operated.

Those arrogant, god‑like nobles never cared about the lives or deaths of common trash like him.

Not long after sending out Mepon and Zidall, he had already received word that both were dead.

That told him everything: this legendary God‑Slayer was far stronger than anyone could imagine.

In a situation like this… even having powerful backers was useless.

The only smart choice was to flee immediately — before the Navy could arrive.

Oboro slowed back down to a walk as he approached Yogi — or Yogi the Viper, as he was known.

He pulled the cloth covering his face away, revealing his features.

Seeing Oboro's face, Yogi turned pale.

He cursed inwardly, furious and terrified.

How did this walking disaster end up on Bonam Island? A remote, insignificant spot along the route?

He truly had the worst luck imaginable.

"Take the treasure… I don't want any part of your business," Yogi said, his voice low and grim.

He was sharp enough to see the situation clearly and decisive enough to try and cut a deal.

At his signal, the pirates surrounding him stepped aside, leaving the chests fully exposed.

Oboro shook his head.

The meaning was obvious.

Money alone was never going to satisfy him… and he was still here to kill.

"Are you sure about this?"

Yogi took a deep breath and sneered. "I suggest you take what you can and run. Don't be greedy. I'm already being more than generous… If I wasn't terrified of the influence your name carries, I wouldn't be this polite."

"If you force this to the death, and we end up stuck here fighting… once the Navy lands, we're all dead men!"

Even if Oboro left Bonam Island right now, the fundamental problem wouldn't go away.

The World Government would still come to "clean up" the island to cover things up.

Oboro gave no reply.

"Do you really insist on making all of us die alongside you?!"

Yogi finally snapped, his voice turning cold and thick with rage.

Without further hesitation, he signaled his men. The crew charged at Oboro in a frenzy.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Yet Oboro continued walking forward as if strolling through a garden…

Every pirate who came close, before their blades could even touch his clothes, seemed struck by some invisible force. One by one, they fell backward, blood spraying from their bodies.

Yogi's pupils contracted sharply.

He had caught it… Oboro's attacks were simply too fast. His whole body moved in sync, shifting and blurring.

But it was happening so fast the eye couldn't follow.

No afterimages even remained…

Only someone with extraordinary vision could catch the movement.

"He really is monstrously strong!"

Yogi's heart pounded.

His men had completely surrounded Oboro only moments ago — now they were lying in heaps on the ground.

"Hiss…"

Suddenly, Oboro heard a strange sound.

Like a snake flicking its tongue.

Yogi, standing ahead, wore a long, loose black robe that concealed his arms.

His body skimmed across the ground in a zig‑zag motion, rushing toward him with terrifying speed.

A killing intent exploded from him.

Hidden within his long sleeve, his hand gripped a short sword coated in deadly poison. He thrust it straight toward Oboro's raised arm.

"Oh?"

Oboro was genuinely surprised.

This man could actually track his movements? Impressive!

Oboro instantly shifted his attack. He aimed a knife‑hand strike to cut Yogi down — but at the last moment, Yogi's body became as pliable as if he had no bones.

His long, slender frame moved exactly like a serpent, gliding past at close range to reappear instantly behind Oboro.

He raised the poisoned blade, ready to strike.

"You brought this on yourself!" Yogi hissed.

Even if he killed the God‑Slayer, he would gain no glory from it. It would only bring him endless, inescapable danger.

The World Government would never allow news of this to spread.

In other words… the God‑Slayer was meant to die only at the hands of the Navy and the World Government.

That was exactly why Yogi had tried so hard to avoid a fight.

"What a bizarre world," a thought flashed through Oboro's mind.

"Judging purely by size, this man's physical toughness should be nowhere near what Mepon had… Yet his speed, strength, explosive power, and reaction time are far superior. In the world of One Piece, the old theories and data I used to analyze bodies just don't apply… Size and muscle mass only relate to physical strength in the loosest way."

Even in the worlds of Hunter x Hunter or Demon Slayer, physical strength couldn't be judged solely by appearance… but it was never as absurd as it was here.

People like Yogi were everywhere in this world — not rare exceptions.

It all came down to the terrifyingly high natural talent for physical strength.

The cold gleam of the poisoned blade hovered right behind Oboro.

In Yogi's experience, the fight was already over.

As long as his opponent didn't react instantly, he would be bitten by this "venomous fang"… and die.

SLAP!

In the next second, blood sprayed from Yogi's ear.

His hearing vanished instantly. A high‑pitched ringing filled his head.

His weapon slipped from his hand. His body went limp, and the world spun as he collapsed.

"I got hit?!"

His face showed pure shock.

How…?

He couldn't understand.

The man who had turned around to face him didn't bother explaining.

Instead, he simply lifted his foot and brought it crashing down onto Yogi's head.

CRACK!

With the sickening sound of a skull shattering, and the splatter of red and white fluids, the Captain of the Slick Pirates was officially removed from the stage of the sea.
