As one of the Nine Intelligent Titans, the Attack Titan is the only Titan not controlled by the Founding Titan.
In addition, the Attack Titan possesses a special ability: after inheriting it, the host can observe the memories of every past and future Attack Titan wielder.
This ability is incredibly powerful, essentially allowing one to "foresee the future" to a certain extent.
However, how much of the future the current host can see—and when they can see it—depends on the will of the future host. As the current holder of the Attack Titan, Naruto can freely view the memories of all previous inheritors. But to view the memories of future inheritors, he needs their consent.
This was the information Naruto obtained after mastering the power of the Attack Titan.
"There's actually such a miraculous ability."
After fully grasping its capabilities, Naruto couldn't help but exclaim. He wasn't in a hurry to control the Founding Titan's power. Instead, he began using the Attack Titan's ability to view the memories of its previous hosts.
He still had doubts about how to seize Titan power. Perhaps he could find the answer in the memories of a previous Attack Titan holder who had taken the Founding Titan.
Through the Attack Titan's ability, Naruto "saw" the memories of the second-to-last inheritor—Grisha Yeager.
Grisha Yeager was a human from the world outside Paradis Island. He came from the Liberio Internment Zone in the Marley Empire. In his youth, he joined the Eldian Restorationists to resist Marley's rule, but his actions were exposed by his own son, Zeke Yeager.
After his plans were uncovered, he was saved by Eren Kruger, the third-to-last holder of the Attack Titan, and inherited the power from him.
Later, he arrived on Paradis Island, married Carla Yeager, and settled in Shiganshina District, south of Wall Maria.
Four years ago, after Wall Maria was breached, he—under the influence of memories from a future Eren—sought out Frieda Reiss, the eldest daughter of the Reiss family, and took the Founding Titan's power from her.
This memory finally allowed Naruto to understand how Titan power was "taken."
"So that's how Titan power is seized… which means I also—"
Naruto suddenly realized that Eren Yeager, whom he had brought along, had not been taken away by Kenny Ackerman.
He had been eaten.
Ugh—!
The realization hit him like a blow. His stomach churned violently, and he bent over, dry-heaving.
He had eaten a person.
Even if it hadn't been under his conscious control, the fact remained undeniable.
Naruto struggled to accept it. The thought that he had "eaten someone" made his entire being recoil. It took him a long time to steady his mind.
If he hadn't kept reminding himself that this was only a virtual experience—and not reality—his sanity might have collapsed.
"Thankfully… this isn't real…"
He muttered to himself, using the thought as a crutch to numb his emotions before continuing to examine Grisha Yeager's memories.
"That's not right…"
Naruto suddenly noticed something strange.
In Grisha's memories, he had been influenced by visions from a future Eren Yeager, which drove him to find Frieda Reiss and seize the Founding Titan.
But the Eren Yeager Naruto had encountered hadn't even mastered the Attack Titan's power. He hadn't even known it existed within him before Naruto killed him.
So where did those future memories come from?
"Could it be… Eren Yeager didn't die?"
The possibility made Naruto's heart stir with sudden hope.
If Eren hadn't died, then Naruto hadn't truly eaten a person. Instead, he might have obtained the Attack Titan and Founding Titan powers through some other method.
"That's right… the Reiss family."
"As descendants of the Founding Titan, they must know other ways to transfer Titan power."
Clinging to this possibility like a lifeline, Naruto tried to rationalize it.
"Kenny Ackerman must know the truth. As long as I find him, I'll understand how I really obtained this power."
With that thought, the heaviness in his chest eased slightly.
He then turned his attention back to the Attack Titan.
In Grisha's memories, events had been influenced by a future Eren Yeager. But now that Naruto possessed the Attack Titan, that future could no longer come to pass—regardless of whether Eren was alive or dead.
In other words, the future seen by an Attack Titan host is not fixed.
It can change.
But the past… cannot.
With this realization, Naruto attempted to view the memories of future Attack Titan inheritors.
What he saw… was nothing.
Only darkness.
"So… after me, there won't be another Attack Titan?"
Naruto frowned at the endless void.
After thinking it over, he found the possibility quite plausible. So he set the matter aside and moved on to examine the memories of the third-to-last inheritor.
From the memories of Eren Kruger, Naruto gained a broader understanding of the outside world.
And more importantly—
He learned a crucial truth.
Those who inherit Titan power only have thirteen years to live from the moment they obtain it.
"So… I only have thirteen years left?"
Naruto murmured.
Then realization dawned.
"No wonder the inheritors keep changing so frequently…"
Now that he thought about it, Roy Reiss must have known this.
He simply didn't want his lifespan to be cut short.
Which meant everything he had said before—about needing strength, about no suitable successor—had all been lies.
He just didn't want to die young.
After coming to this conclusion, Naruto withdrew from the Attack Titan's memories and turned his focus toward the Founding Titan.
Buzz—
As his will connected with the Founding Titan's power within him, he suddenly felt his consciousness being pulled away—just like the sensation of entering a virtual world.
When he came to his senses again, he found himself in a mysterious, unknown place.
