Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Kenshin pulled the stunned girl inside and tossed the bags in the "corridor," locking the peculiar door behind him. Aya couldn't believe her eyes; it was like stepping into a fairy tale, or at least the home of an incredibly wealthy person.

"D-did you build this? But how?" the girl asked in astonishment.

"Every wizard has his secrets... And you haven't even seen all this beauty under proper lighting yet!" the young man replied proudly, pulling her into the "living room."

Kenshin pulled out two pre-prepared candles he'd taken from Aya's house, lit them, and extinguished the torch, handing one candle to the girl so as not to soot up the beautiful mosaic ceiling of the living room.

The girl took the offered candle in shock and stared at the splendor before her. She'd never seen such a beautiful dwelling and couldn't hide her immense surprise.

"Here, come hold this," Kenshin said, handing her the second candle, then grabbing a small stepladder and placing it in the middle of the room. He climbed up and began removing the "fixture." Aya didn't understand what he was doing but obediently did as asked.

Kenshin unscrewed the white fixture with some effort and carefully climbed down with it. Under the girl's curious gaze, he unscrewed the top part, then took a small nail and began scratching something on the inside. The young man scratched thoughtfully for several minutes, pausing, then scratching more, without bothering to explain.

Though he'd drawn these runes in his mind several times and even once on the ground that morning before shaving, the "ritual" still took a good five minutes, and he nearly erred a few times.

Buoyed, Kenshin climbed back up the stepladder and screwed the fixture back in, then scratched something on the outside. Seconds later, the fixture blinked a few times and lit up with bright white light, startling the poor girl.

Seeing the fixture suddenly light up, Aya jumped back in fright, nearly dropping both candles, squealing in alarm.

"Aaah! God, Kenshin, what is that?" the girl muttered in shock, squinting from the bright light.

"It's a primitive lighting formation. It doesn't turn off or on for anyone yet, but tomorrow I'll handle that and make it proper!" Kenshin replied in as casual a tone as possible, as if it were trivial nonsense, but no matter how he tried, he couldn't hide the gleam in his eyes or the occasional smile. The young man was immensely proud of the result.

Adjusting to the bright light, Aya looked around and let out another amazed sigh. "God, it's so beautiful..." she murmured, admiring the wallpaper and mosaic ceiling. She couldn't resist lightly stroking the back of the large leather sofa, savoring the sensation.

"Don't be scared, it doesn't bite. Here, sit," Kenshin said, sitting on the sofa and pulling the girl down beside him.

"Ah! God, Kenshin, we're dirty, we'll ruin this beauty..." Aya groaned, curling up to touch as little of the luxury as possible.

"Stop it, this is our home now, and you're not a guest here—you're the mistress. You could rip this sofa to shreds, and no one would say a word."

"W-what? Rip such beauty? Never!" The girl relaxed a bit, declaring with a tender smile, and finally leaned back against the sofa, moaning softly for the first time on such a soft, high-class couch.

Kenshin leaned back too, relaxing his tired muscles. After five minutes of rest, he got up from the sofa and said, "Rest a bit, you can lie down—the sofa doesn't bite. I need to do one more thing."

Aya nodded and continued admiring the beautiful wallpaper, large dining table, dresser, two armchairs, and many smaller details, reveling in the luxury of her new home.

Meanwhile, Kenshin headed to the bathroom, lit a candle, set it on the sink, and dragged in the stepladder, tackling another fixture. The second time, he inscribed the formation much faster and lit up the bathroom.

Finishing the lighting, he glanced at the large tank bolted to the wall near the ceiling, like a "water heater." He'd originally wanted a classic one, but realizing the "system" wouldn't allow electronics, he changed plans. For his "magical water heater," he based it on a typical tank from Aya's backyard, and the system immediately picked up the image, offering suitable construction variants tailored to his wishes.

Kenshin chose this disassemblable two-part tank. The tools available were basic: the system allowed simple ones like kitchen knives, wrench, hammer, axe, saw, and a few others. No weapons or specialized tools.

While all shelter items were barred from removal, tools had a partial exception—they could be taken out for up to eight hours. After that, they'd vanish and reappear in place only after 30 days.

Reading all the system explanations, the young man was surprised that while the "system" offered vast possibilities, it left almost no loopholes for unfair advantages where not intended—like taking and selling home items or using electricity for tech.

But Kenshin was glad for what he had. He was content not to worry about a warm bed or hot shower. He also knew that without becoming powerful enough, a "Kage"-level shinobi could destroy his splendid home with one hand wave, and soft pillows with terry robes wouldn't help in battle.
