He couldn't remember! No matter how hard he tried, the details of his vision alluded him.
He remembered talking to his father about it, as well as him being troubled by it almost every morning upon waking, but the details itself were completely gone.
"Orian? What are you waiting for?" Asked the Grans.
"I don't know!! Something is wrong! I can't recall the details of the vision at all!!" Stated Orian.
"How could you not recall!? You literally described it to me in exacting detail last night!!" Exclaimed Storm.
" I know!! I remember what the topic was, I remember how I felt when I told you But the actual details of the dream I can't remember!!"
Orian was close to panicking, he was always proud of his mental faculties. He could think and learn quickly, and he always had a near perfect memory recall.
A skill that was very useful for spell casters due to the magic words, gestures or thoughts that was needed in order to use magic successfully.
If his memory was failing him now though, what else could still happen?
"Do you have any other suspicious gaps in your memory, son?" Asked Storm.
"If I have, do you really think I would be able to tell?!!" Asked Orian.
"There's no need to snap at me!!" Retorted Storm .
"All right!! That's enough you two!! This is strange! It's not uncommon for people to forget their dreams upon waking up the next morning, but there's never been a case where the details of one have been stripped away after it could be recalled before!?"
"You mentioned that you were told the details last night, Storm? Describe it for us! Maybe it will help jog Orian's memory. " suggested The Grans.
Orian listened as his father described everything that he had supposedly told him last night. None of it sounded familiar to him however.
It was like listening to a story he had never heard before.
"I have no recollection of that." Stated Orian.
"Hmmm... we can't rule out the possibility of 'artificial amnesia '? Does anyone else know about this?" Asked the Grans.
Orian tried to recall but only his father came to mind. He kept feeling on edge though. As if there was something very important that he'd forgotten to do.
"No... none that I can recall..." stated Orian.
"All right then... we'll use the description your father provided to scour your mind, Orian. See if we can find anything. " Explained the Grans.
His surroundings lighted up and began to blur as The Grans flew through his numerous memories in the hopes of finding the one they sought.
A few minutes later, Orian felt a pleased emotion as they found the object of their search.
"There it is!! It's been pushed into your subconscious!! We'll try and retreave it and push it back into your conscious memory!" Explained the Grans.
Orian could feel their intense concentration through his mental link with them, but nothing of his surroundings changed in reaction to their meddling.
A small glowing orb appeared in front of them that vaguely resembled a spirit of some kind.
"...we... we don't understand... something is blocking us from accessing the memory..." Exclaimed the Grans.
"Something is blocking 'you'!!? How is that possible!!? You're one of the strongest spellcasters I have ever encountered!!?" Asked Storm.
"Ohh!! That's kind of you to say, dear!! But whomever made this barrier and hid his memory here is clearly extremely skilled in mind magic!" Said the Grans.
They gave a sinister grin.
"But not skilled enough!! We know a few tricks and should have this memory accessible in no time." Stated the Grans.
They spread out around the orb and began to chant as they directed magic towards it, the orb reacted immediately to their attempts to access it by releasing small arcs of electricity.
The Grans frowned as the orb continued to resist their intrusion.
"Storm!! Help us with this!!" Exclaimed the Grans.
A moment later Storm added his own strength and it immediately had an effect on their battle of wills.
Just when Orian was convinced that the barrier blocking the memory would be breached, sometimes peculiarhappened.
The Orb suddenly floating higher while discharging large amounts of electricity.
"Everyone get back!!!" Warned the Grans.
The orb suddenly brightened and grew until a massive, ethereal, incorporeal female dragon was standing in front of them.
She was titanically large, much bigger than even Storm and might have been centuries old.
The way that she was looking at each one of them, it was abundantly clear that she was not happy to see them.
Her mental voice bellowed through their minds .
"YOU WILL NOT TOUCH HIM!!!!!"
She roared and a strong mental force knocked everyone out of the mindscape.
Orian reeled after being suddenly kicked out of his own mind, his father and the Grans had it worse and were holding their heads to nurse the large headache they were left with after the attack.
"What the hell was that?" Asked Orian.
"You tell us!! She's in YOUR head after all!" Exclaimed Storm.
"I... I've never seen her before!!" Stated Orian.
"Well, she clearly knows you. And she's powerful too." Stated the Grans.
"Enough of this!! Send me back!! I'll deal with this parasite!!" Growled Storm.
"Absolutely not!! You saw how powerful she was, we're lucky, she could have erased our minds completely if she wanted to!" Warned the Grans.
"I'd prefer it if you didn't have a full blown dragon vs dragon battle in my mind, thank you!! You might break something!!" Exclaimed Orian.
"Well we can't just leave her there! What if she possessed him!!?" Stated Storm.
"She hasn't done so before, that much we could tell from our brief interaction. She only seems interested in keeping that memory locked away.
What's strange is how tightly she's woven into your son's mind, this can only mean one of two things.
Either she knows your son very well. Enough that his mental defenses don't consider her a threat.
Or he allowed her to take residence in his mind." Stated the Grans.
"I swear! I've never seen her before!!" Exclaimed Orian.
"Well, we can't just leave her there!!" Exclaimed Storm.
"I'm afraid that's what we'll have to do for now! She's Queen of the House in there and it's best that we don't pull her tail! You might not like the outcome!"
"We'll study the topic further, maybe we can reason with her? From what we can tell, she doesn't have malicious intent. "
"Quite the opposite, she seems almost maternal in how she's defending your son."
