Chapter 199 - Fighting the Horde

"Keep them off me while I deal with the nest!!" Exclaimed Grimm.

He stepped forward began to spray the growth with a jet of fire.

The whole thing groaned and shivered as it began expelling goblins in greater numbers and frequency.

They took defensive positions around Grimm as the goblins closed in on them. Storm grabbed one that tried to pounce on him and applied enough pressure on his head until it popped like a stepped on grape.

Spraying his scales with sickly green blood.

He tossed the body aside and fired a bolt of lightning at another goblin.

It punched a hole right through the center of it's chest, before continuing on and striking the next goblin.

It continued to jump and fork between the tightly packed goblins until it lost energy and fizzled out.The smell of burnt flesh hanged over the room as the deathtoll on the goblins side continued to increase.

The nest must have sensed that the odds wasn't in it's favor because it began to expel larger, red skinned, horned goblins.

"Hobgoblins!! Watch yourself!! They're tougher than the regular ones!!" Warned Grimm.

The hobgoblins bellowed and rushed at their group without any fear.

Dust'an released a jet of fire to burn the creatures but it seemed that the bigger creatures weren't just stronger or bigger.

They also seemed to be somewhat fireproof unlike the regular goblins, as they continued to approach despite Dust'an's best efforts to burn them out.

Storm summoned his duel blades and prepared for the onslaught.

One of the creatures tried to strike Storm with a claw but he took a step back and slashed it's arm, severing it in the process.

Despite the wound, the hobgoblin leaned forward and tried to bite Storm in the face.

Storm leaned back startled before beheading the creature with a swipe from his blade.

"Everyone down!!" He called.

Everyone ducked as he summoned 2 wide beams of golden light out of his hands and swept it across the room. Cutting cleanly through the entire goblin horde in a single sweep.

The Hobgoblins torso's seperated from their lower halves as the beams passed through them. While their shorter goblin kin's heads all fell to the ground.

The nest quivered and began to puff up like a bag being filled with water, before suddenly bursting and spraying Storm's unfortunate group in blood and 'other' fluids.

Storm struggled not to be sick as a pungent smell filled the room.

The Dwarven Sargent rolled his eyes at the dragon's weaker stomach.

"Surfacers." Muttered Grimm.

"You could have warned us that it was going to do that!!!" Exclaimed Storm.

"Why spoil the suprise!? Congratulations on your first 'bloodbath'!" Stated Grimm in amusement.

"Sir!!! There's fighting somewhere behind us!!" Called one of the dwarves.

The Sargent frowned.

"There shouldn't be any other teams close to us!! Stay alert!! Just because they're fighting the same enemy, doesn't make them our allies!!" Stated Grimm.

Meanwhile, while Storm was fighting the goblins, his group didn't realize they had an unexpected group tailing them...

"This is an bad idea, Orian!! Even for you!!" Exclaimed Lavander in irritation.

Orian and his friends had snuck away from their caretakers. They all had heard of how dangerous the mission was and he was determined to help out however he could.

Currently all 4 of his friends were walking down the same tunnel Storm's group had passed through a moment ago.

Lavender mostly just came along so that she could keep an eye on Orian. Quill thought this was an excellent opportunity to prove her strength to her mother. Quicksilver came to keep her save.

Chrome wasn't particularly keen to go, but he didn't have the nerve to say anything.

The group had welcomed him with open arms despite his questionable background and he didn't want to jeopardize it by speaking up against their leader's plan. Even if he didn't agree with it.

"You heard the grownups, Lavander!! Everyone is needed!! So we must help however we can!!" Retorted Orian.

"If they wanted our help, then they would have asked for it!!" Answered Lavander.

"It's just goblins!! Small, vermin with barely any intelligence or weapons!! How bad can they be?!"

His griffin friend opened his beak to respond, probably with some detailed description he read about in a book or something.

Luckily for Orian, a goblin chose that moment to jump out of the shadows ahead of them.

It seemed taken aback by the small nature of it's adversaries, Orian crouched down and gave a growl at the creature.

Spreading out his wings in order to make himself seem larger. The creature chuckled at Orian's attempt to intimidate him.

"What do we do!!?" Asked Quicksilver nervously.

The manticore cub, Quill rolled her eyes and raised her tail.

A single spike on it's tip suddenly sprang up.

She flicked her tail and sent it flying through the goblin's head, right between his eyes.

As it fell to the ground dead, she glared at Quicksilver and shook her head.

"Weakling. " muttered Quill as she walked past them.

"You're girlfriend scares me sometimes, you know?" Stated Orian.

"H-hey!! She's not my girlfriend!!" Exclaimed Quicksilver.

"You're not kidding anyone, Quicksilver!!

Everyone can see you.have the hots for her!" Exclaimed Lavander.

Before he could argue further, several more goblins stepped out of the shadows in front of them.

Opening his mouth, Orian fired a beam of light at the goblins, despite his best efforts more goblins came to replace those he killed.

He coughed as the beam suddenly ended.

"I'm out!!"Exclaimed Orian hoarsly.

Lavander and Chrome stepped forward and released their own breath attacks.

From the back, Quill continued to fire spines at any goblin that stepped into firing range.

After several minutes both dragons coughed as the fuel for their fire breath ran out.

They coughed and tried to draw deeper into their reserves.

But all they managed to do was cough up a small stream of liquid fire.

The goblins laughed at their plight before slowly closing in on them with maniacal grins on their faces.

Quicksilver took a defensive position in front Quill as he tried to shield her from danger with his body. Though his fear filled eyes and quivering body betrayed his true mindset.
