Chapter 122 - Greedy Michael

"No, wait!"

It took a while for Michael to regain some strength in his body.

He hurriedly picked up the note that had inexplicably appeared in his home and examined it carefully.

Possessing a bit of street smarts, Michael quickly realized something was odd.

"Who slipped this note into my house?"

"How did he know I have Stansfield's goods here?"

Michael was clever enough to spot the peculiarity.

But the information he possessed was far too limited.

His expression shifting darkly, he thought for a while, suspecting every friend and rival he knew.

But he couldn't figure out who had put the note there.

However, Michael wasn't entirely without leads.

Ever since Stansfield's men hid the ten kilograms of drugs in his apartment over twenty days ago...

Michael, being an addict himself, dealt with those ten kilos every day.

In his heart, a dangerous idea had long been brewing: to embezzle a portion of those drugs.

After all, what Stansfield stored here was high-quality product.

The price for one kilogram was around $100,000.

Even if Michael only stole one-tenth of it, the money he'd get would be enough for him to live luxuriously for several years.

So ever since this thought emerged, Michael had been tormented daily by his own greed.

He wanted more money, but he also knew that Stansfield—the corrupt DEA agent—was rumored to be a ruthless character who frequently robbed other criminals.

Michael worried that if Stansfield found out his goods were short...

He would come looking for trouble, or even kill him.

For the past twenty-plus days, Michael had hesitated, never daring to act on his greedy thoughts.

Now, the sudden appearance of the mysterious note...

Gave Michael an idea.

Supporting himself against the wall, he stood up quickly.

After stuffing the note into his pocket, Michael opened the door.

Moving with a speed that belied his obese frame, he hurried down the stairs and out of the apartment building.

He then began to search the surrounding streets and walls carefully.

Not long after, Michael's expression suddenly changed.

Sure enough, on an inconspicuous corner wall not far from the apartment, he saw a surveillance camera pointed directly at the entrance of his building.

Michael's face grew even uglier, but he held back his panic and walked quickly to inspect the area under the camera.

After a moment, he confirmed there were no shops or businesses nearby.

Moreover, by tracing the camera's wiring...

Michael followed the line all the way back to his own apartment building. He watched as the wire ran along the wall and entered a room on the fourth floor.

His heart was filled with shock and fear, but mixed with about 30% excitement.

"I never told anyone that Stansfield has goods with me."

"So, it must be that his side leaked the news, and someone is watching him."

"Although I don't know who is watching him..."

"Or who slipped me the note!"

"But this... this might be an opportunity."

Countless thoughts flashed through his mind rapidly.

The more Michael thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. So, when he walked back into the apartment building, climbed the stairs to the sixth floor, and entered his home...

A plan to double-cross Stansfield and swallow the entire shipment had already formed in Michael's mind.

He walked quickly to the bathroom door and banged on it, urging Liv to finish her shower.

A few minutes later, the moment Liv—wearing only panties and wrapped in a bath towel—angrily pushed the door open...

Michael grabbed her and shoved his eldest daughter out.

"Sorry, baby, Daddy really needs to use the toilet."

With that, he slammed the door shut and locked himself in the bathroom.

Outside, Liv cursed rudely.

Inside the bathroom, Michael skillfully walked to the toilet tank.

He quickly opened the lid and took out two packages of white powder, protected by oil paper and waterproof bags.

Then, he found the remaining three packages hidden in the corners of several cabinets.

These five packages of powder were the high-grade drugs Stansfield had stashed with Michael.

Each package weighed two kilograms. If sold, they would be worth at least a million dollars.

Looking at the five bags of white gold, the greed in Michael's heart burned ever brighter.

Finally, in this moment, his greed overpowered his fear of the notorious Stansfield.

"Mine. It's all mine!"

He rummaged through the bathroom for several trash bags.

Michael quickly stuffed all ten kilograms of drugs into them.

He planned to take them out later and find channels to sell them off in small batches.

As for Stansfield, Michael had already thought of a countermeasure.

He planned to call Stansfield's men later.

He would tell them that a surveillance camera had been installed at the apartment, and he suspected their side had leaked the information.

The somewhat clever Michael even planned the next step in his mind.

Later today, when his family was out, he would trash the apartment.

Then, he would pretend that the house had been broken into.

And that all of Stansfield's goods had been stolen by the intruders.

This way, although Michael would inevitably be scrutinized by Stansfield for a while...

And he suspected he might even get beaten up...

But being watched wasn't his fault.

Michael felt that Stansfield would definitely blame the leak on his own side.

So, at most, he would suffer a little pain. After getting through that, it would be time to enjoy the rich rewards.

Thinking of this, Michael couldn't hold back anymore.

He immediately began to get busy according to his plan.

Several hours later, inside an office at the Los Angeles DEA (Narcotics Bureau).

Stansfield, legs propped up on his desk, leaning back in his chair, listening to Beethoven's 5th Symphony (Fate)... was forced to take off his headphones by the constant ringing of the telephone.

The moment he picked up the phone with dissatisfaction and a hint of anger...

A piece of news came from the other end that instantly changed Stansfield's expression.

"Stan, something happened at Michael's place."

"Someone was watching him. Not only did they install a surveillance camera at the apartment, but they also broke into his home and took all the goods."

In an instant, veins popped out on the corrupt cop Stansfield's forehead.

He was furious!
