The ground trembled violently beneath Andrey's feet. A shockwave of displaced earth and stone erupted from the center of the clearing, and the creature forced its way upward.
It was massive. A nightmare of scales and sinew, its body coiling like a serpent as it rose from the earth. Its hide was thick and armored, dark greenish-black, slick with damp soil and trailing roots. Its head was broad and flat, with a row of jagged, crystalline teeth protruding from its jaws—each one gleaming like a shard of frozen lightning. Three eyes burned along its skull, each a different shade of molten gold, fixed on Andrey with predatory hunger.
A holographic screen flickered to life in front of Andrey.
