Chapter 12 - The First Error

The wheels creaked under the weight of the carriage as the horse's hooves made dull thuds against the road. In the driver's hand, the reins rustled slightly.

"Where are the others?" Aziel asked while his hand sliding the curtain to let the wind in.

"I send them to the halix." Azik replied, his voice calm.

"Halix?" Aziel enquired.

"Oh, you don't know about them." Azik replied.

Azik's hand moved to his chin, thumb and forefinger pressing slightly as he thought in his mind.

"How should I explain it?" Azik said as he shifted slightly on the seat. "You can simply call them doctors with Manifex powers working in Equinox."

(Note: Equinox is the organization in which watchers work like Aziel and Azik. Simply they are police that fight against Mindfall and mysterious activities in their area)

Aziel gave a bright smile and looked outside the window, he said.

"It is good that they are getting treatment."

As the carriage was moving it suddenly stopped near a tall building. Azik opened the carriage door and stepped out of it.

He held the door open while standing outside and nodded Aziel to step out of it. Aziel glanced at the tall building, eyes scanning the building curiously. As he stepped out of it his legs felt heavy. He paused for a moment before standing upright.

The building was plane and made up of brick walls. No decoration and nothing at all. It looked as if there was a stone pillar in the middle of beautifully decorated houses in the city.

"Where are we?" Aziel questioned.

Azik started walking toward the building's door. It was made of old oak wood, its surface worn as if it had been standing there for more than a decade.

Aziel thought as he looked at Azik's back, as he moved there.

Great he is again acting like that. Why can't he explain everything.

Without thinking anything else Aziel followed Azik, following in his footsteps.

As both of them stood in front of the door. Aziel looked at Azik's face as Azik knocked at the door. Aziel glanced around the surrounding. This place was really strange no mailbox, garden, nothing outside the building. it did not even have a building.

Then at last, the door slowly opened. The wood groaned loudly, sounding as if it would break apart with the next movement.

Behind the door stood a man. He was covered completely in white cloth. His face was also covered completely with a white mask and a big dark blackish circle in the center of the mask.

As Aziel saw him, his clothing gave a creepy feeling in Aziel's spine. He glared at him head to toe for a second as he thought.

What the hell is this uniform…

The man looked at Azik and nodded his head and pointed them to enter. Before entering Aziel peeped inside the building. there was a hallway inside it, but it was completely empty, nothing inside.

Azik entered inside and Aziel followed in his steps. Their footsteps echoed in the hallway in uneven rhythm. Aziel glaring at the blank white painted walls.

Azik glanced back at Aziel and said quietly.

"Stay close to me."

Aziel lifted his gaze to Azik, and after hearing those words, he started walking alongside him.

After walking for a few minutes in that long hallway Aziel could see a room at the end of the hallway. The first room that Aziel saw in that whole building.

Before entering the room Azik looked back at Aziel and patted his hair. Azik bowed down to him and said with a wide smile on his face.

"Aziel from here whatever happen just trust me."

Aziel glared at him trying to see his eyes and said.

"Okay, But remove those hairs from your eyes first."

Azik laughed as he straightened his back and touched the handle of the door.

"I don't think that would be possible."

And then he pushed the door open.

Inside there was a big stage in front of them and a lot of seats lined up in front of the stage. there were huge red colored curtains hanging with the walls. There were many flowerpots placed at the entrance on many wooden tables.

On the stage there were two desks at the opposite ends of the stage near to the audience. On which two people were standing and were talking about something that Aziel could not hear about.

A lot of people were sitting on the chairs and they all looked back at them glaring them up as they would eat them up in just few seconds.

"Welcome Aziel to the Great Council." Azik said, with calm voice. "This is the place where we decide about the watcher laws and…"

Azik paused for a second and then with a deep breath he continued. "And this is also the place where we decide about many executions."

Before Azik could tell Aziel anything else a voice came from the stage.

A person standing behind the right desk on the stage shouted with confidence. He was tall, shoulders broad and had long blond hair. His lips were thin, curling into a small, unsettling smile.

He wore a long, dark velvet cloak with gold embroidery that reached the stage floor. His sharp features were pale, with a high, stiff collared shirt encasing them. Deep crimson encased the wide ends of his collared shirt. A dark cloak covered his collar, with a lion brooch that was glazed.

"Welcome Aziel." He paused a gave a creepy smile while looking at Aziel's face. "Or should I say The First Error."
