The last Friday before the summer break came quickly. It was kind of sad how fast my high school life had ended, just like my senior year. I should have probably been excited for the new chapter that was coming, but watching my friends argue about some TV show was telling me otherwise. These almost frequent afternoons at the café wouldn't be here anymore.
School was over, and I didn't even know who exactly had the idea to come over here. To hang out here before Henry's shift was supposed to start, and the rest of us would slowly go our own ways for the afternoon.
For the time being, we mostly talked about our plans for the few upcoming weeks—such as family trips, part-time jobs, or some similar things. All the strange feelings of sadness about graduating went out of my mind as fast as they came then. There was no time for that.
"Hey, I think I'll get some cake," I announced, making everyone glance in my direction. "Y'all want anything?"
Jade smiled, nodding, to which she stood up just as I did, "Yeah, I'll go with you."
"I want the blueberry muffin, please," Liam glanced at us again with a smile on his face.
Nodding, the two of us then went to join the queue, standing behind six people. Thankfully, there weren't many people in the café, but this afternoon still seemed to be busy. Busier than at other times, we visited the place. This time of the year seemingly made some businesses fuller.
Once I was supposed to say my order, I went for something new for today—sachertorte. I then glanced back at Jade, who was looking at the blackboard on the wall across from us, "He said blueberry, right?"
Jade nodded, to which I told the guy behind the counter the rest of my order and went to the side to wait for the desserts. Liam's pastry was soon put on the counter for me to take, and I couldn't help but think the colorisation of the dessert seemed a little dangerous.
"If you survive eating this, then anything's possible," I stated as I was soon back at our table with Liam's blue muffin and my cake. The black-haired boy shot me an annoyed look but said nothing as he took his pastry from me.
"I told him this too, but he just loves weird things," Henry laughed, making our friend groan.
"You're one to talk."
My eyebrows shot high on my forehead as I wasn't entirely sure what they were talking about. Henry acted weirdly sometimes, that I knew. However, nothing I had witnessed until now was ever close to them eating something that looked this dangerous.
The boys were at each other's throats for a while, entertaining us, whilst the rest of us became quiet. Leah said some things from one moment to another, becoming a part of their friendly argument. It was indeed fun to watch, but slowly getting boring and maybe even annoying. I really couldn't understand how they could do it almost all the time. Even though I felt a bit jealous of the kind of relationship they had.
"Jeez, I feel like those years went by quicker thanks to Covid," Leah groaned, almost slamming her phone onto the table, which made the rest of us look at her in surprise. She was right, but I wasn't quite sure what led her to those thoughts.
"Well, you're right, but like…calm down, girl," Jade laughed, patting her black-haired friend on the shoulder. Exactly my thoughts, Jade.
Our second round of coffee and desserts was consumed much quicker than the first one, or at least it seemed that way to me. Everyone had their plans for later today, after all, so it made sense. And so, the minutes went by, and the only one of us who stayed at the café was Henry, while the rest of us slowly parted our ways outside.
I had made plans earlier for when I got back home when there would be no one there. Ava was the one who initiated this, saying she could maybe stay until later since she had no shift today.
Thankfully, Mum had some kind of business dinner, so she was coming back home later. However, at first, she was quite indecisive since it was my last day of school and she felt bad for not seeing me the whole day, so I had to agree to have dinner with her the next day. Although it wouldn't be just the two of us, as her boyfriend was supposed to be joining us in the restaurant.
Thinking about our agreement, my mind went to the talk she also gave me the previous day. She was a little worried that I felt put on the second track because she had someone to date now. I had to remind her that Dad had a whole wife and second kid, but that didn't work very well. It seemed like she felt even worse after that. I used to feel that way too, sometimes when my annoying mind just started to be loud. It was a bit depressing, but, fortunately, I always pushed those thoughts quickly away.
As I was looking at the ceiling of my room, I sighed at the thoughts that came into my mind at that moment of solitude. I had some music put on so I felt a bit better, but as my eyes went over the white colour above me, I got lost in my thoughts.
In three days, I would be back with my friends in Luton, sleeping over at one of their houses for a while, and then I would be travelling into a whole different country. Dad had already bought me a ticket, so at least something had been taken care of. I was very glad about that as I felt quite overwhelmed with almost everything else.
My eyes went towards the window as Uprising started playing through the space of my room. It was quite sunny outside, and the smell of summer was for sure all around there.
I flinched when the doorbell rang, announcing a visitor. A little tired, I got up and went to the front door to open it for Ava, who was standing on the other side with a small smile playing on her lips.
"Hey," I smiled at her and stepped away from the door.
Ava returned the greeting with a quick kiss on my lips as she stepped inside. I then let her take off her shoes and jacket while I closed the door behind her.
We were both quiet, but only for a moment until I asked the dirty blonde girl if she wanted to drink anything. To my not-so-great surprise, she just smirked and tilted her head to the side.
"What?" I asked, taking a step towards where she was standing by the short hallway in which the doors to the rooms were.
"I'm not really thirsty, that way." Bloody hell.
Just as Ava said the last word, she stepped closer to me, bringing her hands to my face. She then kissed me and I, her. The two of us stood there for a while, exchanging some small kisses until they became more heated. Until we decided that my room would be a better place for our little make-out session.
When we were lying on my bed later, we were both listening to one of the albums we had agreed on. It was truly relaxing. Well, apart from the fact that we were trying to catch our breath. Ava was like a demon in that department, after all.
"I can't believe we're done with high school already," Ava muttered, making me tilt my head to look at her.
"Yeah."
"Even though it was really terrible at times."
I hummed, watching as she gazed at the ceiling of my room. Not every day could be a walk in the park, but I understood what exactly she meant—those fake friends whom she thought she needed to impress or some bullshit.
My eyes went over her face before I flipped myself over so I was now lying on my stomach while still looking at the blondie as she stayed, probably counting the lint on the ceiling. It must have been riveting, maybe even fun to do that. Hear the sarcasm?
I held my head up on my palm before touching Ava's cheek with my fingers. This time, her eyes flickered over to me, watching me as I grazed her skin. It was kind of soft. Well, obviously, she wasn't an over sixty years old granny.
Sighing, I looked up into her eyes, which were still watching me as her lips spread into a small smile. I couldn't help myself and touched her lower lip with my index finger. And that made her face go a shade more pink, which made me smile too. Ava must have felt embarrassed by that. At least that was what went through my mind as she rose up from the bed and pushed onto my shoulder to make me fall back.
Surprised, I let out a laugh, to which she smiled before locking our lips into yet another sweet kiss. And certainly not the last.
I was sure of it soon enough when Ava's hands went under my t-shirt and over my stomach, which made me sigh—or more like a moan—as I returned her yet another kiss. A kiss that became heated in a matter of seconds.
Again, I touched her face. Only this time, my hand went over her cheek before moving towards her neck, bringing her closer. Her hands stayed still for a moment as we made out before Ava sat down on my lap, tugging on my shirt.
"It's in the way."
"Right," I chuckled before helping her with getting rid of that piece of clothing.
Ava looked me over before smiling happily, "Better."
Shaking my head, I grabbed her by the back of her neck, bringing her down towards myself before whispering, "You sure yours isn't in the way?"
