David unfolded a tripod beside the table, adjusted its legs, and attached a camera. He checked the angle, glanced toward Luca, then toward Veronica, ensuring both would fit inside the frame.
"Of course, I should have known it was so simple. I'll just kill him, shall I? Gee… why didn't I think of that?" Veronica drawled. "What do you think I have been trying to do all this time?" She understood that he was trying to keep her calm, to remind her that she was not helpless.
David finished setting up the camera. He stepped back to inspect the frame, adjusted it slightly, then reached toward the table and picked up a knife.
The humour vanished from Luca's eyes. David held Luca's gaze, searching past the arrogance, the contempt, and the murderous patience. For the first time since Luca had entered the warehouse, David found what he had been waiting for.
