The first golden rays of morning sliced through the thick canopy of the Viridian Forest, casting long, dancing shadows across the dew-soaked grass. Robin stepped out of the newly renovated wooden cabin, stretching her arms with a satisfying pop, with her trusty Pidgey perched comfortably on his shoulder.
"Alright, partner," Robin said, adjusting his collar with a determined grin. "Day two of our two-year sentence in the tutorial zone. Today's objective: mastering Extreme Speed and Air Slash. If you want to become the undisputed king of the skies, we need your aerial combat skills sharp enough to cut glass."
Pidgey let out an enthusiastic chirp, rubbing its head affectionately against Robin's cheek, its brown feathers catching the morning light.
They strolled over to a spacious, sunlit clearing nearby. Robin reached into his backpack and pulled out a handful of colorful, sweet-smelling berries.
"First up: Extreme Speed agility training," Robin announced, pacing out a rough square. "I'm going to hang these berries on trees facing north, south, east, and west, spaced roughly fifty meters apart. Your job is to tag them in sequence as fast as humanly—or rather, avially—possible."
Pidgey hovered in mid-air, wings beating a steady rhythm as it acknowledged the plan. Robin dashed around the clearing, hastily tying berries to various branches before sprinting back to the center.
"Are you ready? Three, two, one—go!"
Pidgey shot forward like a feathered cannonball. Its wings vibrated rapidly, leaving a blurry, brownish streak in the damp air. But as it approached the first berry, its momentum got the better of its braking system. Unable to adjust its trajectory in time, Pidgey plowed straight into a thick oak branch with a comical thwack!
"Oof!" Pidgey bounced off the wood, tumbling clumsily onto a patch of soft moss.
Robin rushed over, gently scooping the dizzy bird up in his hands. "You alright, buddy? Remember, speed is only half the battle; vector control is everything. Extreme Speed isn't just about moving fast in a straight line; it's about maintaining pinpoint precision while turning."
Pidgey shook its head, blinking away the stars, and flew back up with a fiery, stubborn glint in its dark eyes.
On the second attempt, Pidgey wisely throttled back its velocity, successfully tapping the first two berries before overshooting the third and spinning out of control again.
"Use your tail and wingtips like aerodynamic flaps!" Robin coached, cupping his hands around his mouth. "Imagine you're a falling leaf dancing on top of a heavy gale—ride the wind, don't fight it!"
Pidgey hovered, closed its eyes, and took a deep, steadying breath. When it snapped its eyes open, they burned with absolute focus. This time, its flight path was poetry in motion. It glided fluidly around the clearing, transforming into a streak of brown lightning. Tap, tap, tap, tap! All four berries were tagged in rapid, flawless succession.
"Nailed it!" Robin cheered, pumping his fist as Pidgey glided back down to land proudly on his shoulder, puffing out its little chest.
After a quick snack break, they moved on to Air Slash training.
Robin drew several rough target circles on a sturdy tree trunk with a piece of charcoal. "The secret to Air Slash isn't just brute-force wind generation," Robin explained, pacing like a passionate professor. "You have to compress flying-type energy into a dense, razor-sharp blade and release it cleanly."
Pidgey hovered opposite the tree, staring intently at the charcoal marks. It flapped its wings furiously, conjuring a massive gust of wind that merely succeeded in blowing a cascade of dead leaves into Robin's face.
Robin wiped the leaves off his head, coughing. "Rome wasn't built in a day. Try focusing the energy tighter—think scalpel, not leaf-blower."
Pidgey closed its eyes again, its wings beating at a hyper-specific, high-frequency hum. A visible swirl of atmospheric pressure began to distort the air around its body. With a sharp snap, Pidgey whipped its wing forward. An invisible crescent blade of air shot across the clearing, clipping the edge of the bark before dissipating with a soft pop.
"That's a prototype! You actually generated a blade on your first real try!" Robin gasped, clapping enthusiastically.
For the next few hours, the clearing echoed with the sharp whoosh of compressed air. Pidgey experimented with wing angles, flapping frequency, and energy concentration. By midday, when the sun reached its zenith, Pidgey launched a clean, crisp Air Slash that neatly sliced a thin branch right off the target tree.
"We are officially cooking with gas!" Robin laughed, grabbing Pidgey and spinning around in a circle.
Just then, a rustling sound cut through the bushes. A wild Rattata stepped out into the clearing, drawn in by the commotion. Its whiskers twitched aggressively, baring sharp incisors as it locked eyes with them, clearly spoiling for a turf war.
"Perfect timing for a live-fire combat exam," Robin grinned, pointing forward. "Pidgey, let's test that Air Slash. Keep the power controlled—just enough to push it back, no lethal force!"
Pidgey fluttered to the center of the clearing, condensing its energy in a fraction of a second and firing a crescent air blade. Rattata leaped sideways with surprising agility, leaving a shallow gouge in the dirt.
"Don't let up! Anticipate its hops!" Robin called out.
Pidgey adjusted its aim, tracking Rattata's movement pattern. Just as the rodent Pokémon coiled its legs to leap again, Pidgey released a second blade. The air slice clipped Rattata's paw, causing it to stumble and trip over its own tail.
Furious, Rattata charged forward with a vicious Tackle. Pidgey naturally reflexively surged upward, instantly shifting into Extreme Speed to dive-bomb its opponent at breakneck velocity.
"Whoa, watch the power!" Robin shouted.
At the last microsecond, Pidgey banked hard, turning a potentially devastating crash into a gentle, momentum-dampening wing-slap that sent Rattata tumbling backward into the grass. Realizing it was outmatched, the rodent squeaked in frustration, turned tail, and scrambled back into the underbrush.
"Not bad at all," Robin praised, letting Pidgey land back on his shoulder. "You naturally integrated Extreme Speed into your evasion. That's top-tier battle IQ."
The afternoon sun dipped lower as they ventured deeper into the forest trails. They successfully practiced precision leaf-cutting on a crawling Caterpie without disturbing it, and effortlessly juked a trio of aggressive Spearows using high-speed aerial acrobatics.
As twilight settled, painting the sky in gorgeous hues of purple and gold, they set up a resting spot near a babbling stream. Robin was sharing some of his standard rations when the bushes on the opposite bank exploded in a shower of twigs and leaves.
Out stepped a massive Raticate—visibly larger, battle-scarred, and radiating an aura of pure vengeance. It was clearly the bigger, meaner evolution of the Rattata from earlier that morning, returning to settle the score.
"Well, well. Looks like we have a final exam after all," Robin said calmly, standing up and dusting off his jeans. "Pidgey, show this oversized rodent what high-tier training looks like!"
Pidgey took flight, locking onto Raticate as the wild Pokémon lunged forward with a glowing, razor-sharp Hyper Fang.
"Evasion first! Use Extreme Speed to put distance between you, then counter with Air Slash!" Robin commanded.
Pidgey vanished in a flash of white light, reappearing ten meters away just as Raticate's jaws snapped shut on empty air. Raticate whipped around instantly, closing the gap with a terrifying Quick Attack. The two Pokémon became a blur of motion, zipping across the stream bank so fast the air crackled.
Pidgey tried to fire an Air Slash, but Raticate's reflexes were razor-sharp, dodging every projectile while threatening with another crushing bite.
We're getting locked down in close quarters, Robin thought rapidly. I need to break its rhythm.
"Pidgey! Listen to my cue! Use Extreme Speed to fake left, loop around its blind spot, and hit it with a point-blank Air Slash!"
Pidgey executed the maneuver flawlessly. It shot to the left like a meteor, and just as Raticate pivoted to intercept, Pidgey blinked right, unleashing a compressed air blade straight into Raticate's flank.
Bang!
Raticate let out a startled squeal, its momentum shattering as it crashed into the dirt.
"Finish it! Continuous Air Slash barrage, controlled power!" Robin yelled.
Pidgey didn't hesitate, firing two rapid-fire air blades that struck true. Raticate staggered, tried to stand on wobbly legs, and finally collapsed into the grass, completely tapped out.
"Congratulations to the host for completing the hidden mission: First Major Victory! Reward distributed: Revitalizing Spray ×10 (30-day efficacy per bottle), Power Weight ×1, Wild Survival Starter Kit."
The system notification chimed happily in Robin's mind. Robin immediately pulled out a Revitalizing Spray and spritzed a gentle mist over the defeated Raticate.
"Sorry about that, big guy. Fair fight, and you fought like an absolute warrior," Robin said softly.
Raticate blinked, its hostile red eyes softening. It let out a low, gravelly grunt of acknowledgment before struggling to its feet and lumbering slowly back into the deep forest shadows.
Pidgey landed back on Robin's shoulder, panting heavily, its eyes gleaming with the sweet taste of hard-earned victory.
Later that night, as a warm campfire crackled by the stream, Robin sat cross-legged, reviewing the day's triumphant training logs.
Suddenly, a digital chime rang out in his mind: "Host, you haven't claimed your pending daily task reward from yesterday yet ^0^"
"Ah, right, the reward," Robin mumbled, closing his eyes.
Before he could even brace himself, a massive torrent of complex survival data, forestry blueprints, and cognitive processing techniques flooded his brain all at once. The sudden, overwhelming rush of information hit him like a physical freight train, causing Robin to let out a weak gasp before dramatically face-planting straight into the dirt, completely knocked out cold.
