Kai finds me after the connection closes and the King has said what the King said about the Moon Goddess and dawn, and the finding is the way he always finds me — without calculation about whether the timing is right, the bond carrying the direction and the bond being right about the direction.
We've been in this specific place before. Not this physical location but this quality of moment — the two of us at the edge of something large that is going to happen regardless of our feelings about it, with the feelings present and real and the large thing coming anyway.
He speaks first, which is not his usual mode, and the fact that he speaks first tells me something about where he's been in the time since the dream and the divine confrontation and the vision of my father and everything that has been running in the hours since we sat in the honest light together.
"I've been thinking about tomorrow," he says.
