"Bitch!" Sarah breathed out, her voice a sharp exhale of frantic shock.
"It's sharp two-uh! Where the fuck have you been?!"
Fedora hissed, a low, jagged sound, and countered with a defensive.
"Sarah, what is it? What do you want? Are you here to rat me out or help?" He shot her an exaggerated, theatrical pout, his chin jutting forward as he tried to mask the tremor of his own nerves.
Sarah mirrored him instantly, her lips twisting into an equally mocking, evaluative pout.
She gave him the stare-down of his life, a silent, heavy indictment, and then, with a sharp, unimpressed click of her tongue, she went on the offensive.
"The thing is, I already told your parents that you're fast asleep," she said, her voice dripping with acerbic fatigue.
She reached into her pocket and fished out a ring of keys, lifting them high to dangle them in his line of sight. The metal jangled, a cold, frantic, rhythmic clinking that cut through the silence of the backyard.
