The Insect Pillar gritted his teeth, desperate to use the powerful Grass-type move to crush the Vivillon.
"Haha, Vivillon, give him a hand! Use Sunny Day!" Feng Che laughed.
Vivillon beat its wings, which shimmered with a golden brilliance rivaling the sun itself. Golden scales drifted through the air, sparkling with radiant light. The entire battlefield was soon awash in a golden glow. The Vivillon danced gracefully through the air, leaving trails of shimmering golden thread in its wake.
A sphere of concentrated energy—the Sunny Day—was launched into the sky, acting like a miniature sun and radiating immense heat.
I don't know why Elite Feng Che would help me with Sunny Day, the Insect Pillar thought, but thanks to him, my Beautifly can charge its Solar Beam much faster. I owe you one!
"Vivillon, Solar Beam!"
Before the Insect Pillar could fully process the situation, Feng Che's command rang out. Every part of Vivillon's wings began drinking in the heat from the artificial sun. Four golden orbs, initially the size of marbles, manifested along its wingtips. They swelled rapidly before erupting into four concentrated pillars of light directed straight at the Beautifly.
"No... it can't be! How is it charging that fast?!"
The Beautifly was still gathering energy when the gold beams struck. It was instantly engulfed in radiance. Accompanied by the faint smell of scorched protein, the Beautifly plummeted to the ground, its body twitching.
The Insect Pillar's face turned ashen. He had prided himself on his Bug-type mastery, yet he had lost to Feng Che in his own specialty. Feng Che was truly his nemesis.
"The winner is contestant number 4!" The referee blew his whistle.
The crowd erupted into hushed, intense whispers.
"Did you see that charge speed? No ordinary Vivillon can fire a Solar Beam that quickly." "I've caught a Green-potential Vivillon before, but compared to this one, it's like a snail. This thing has to be Cyan-potential." "A Cyan-potential Sun Pattern? That's not a golden-egg-laying hen; that's a golden phoenix!"
The gazes of the spectators grew predatory. Even a Weedle with Cyan potential would fetch a fortune on the black market—a Sun Pattern Vivillon with that talent was literally priceless.
"It really is Cyan-potential," Doris whispered, her fists clenched. "I have to win that bird. My status in the family will be untouchable if I bring that back."
"The match between Participant 1 and 2 is over! Participant 2's Icy Snow Vivillon is the victor!" the referee announced.
"And now, for the final showdown!" Mayor Hakke shouted, his voice reaching a fever pitch. "The clash for the championship! Participant 2 vs. Participant 4! Let the battle begin!"
As Hakke stepped back, Doris looked sharply at Feng Che. "Let's raise the stakes. The winner of this match gets the Bug Crystal and the opponent's Vivillon. Do you have the guts?"
Feng Che used his system to scan her Pokémon: Icy Snow Vivillon, Green Potential, Level 23.
"Deal," Feng Che replied. "If I lose, the Sun Pattern and the Master-crafted balls from Kurt are yours. If you lose, I take your butterfly and your second-place prize."
"Agreed! Go, Vivillon!" Doris released her Pokémon.
A frigid chill immediately swept across the arena. Interesting, Feng Che thought. That chill is quite intense; this Icy Snow variant must have a special trait. He sent out his Sun Pattern variant.
The battlefield became a study in contrasts: a literal duel of fire and ice. One side was a frozen wasteland of silver frost and biting wind; the other was a radiant paradise of golden scales and solar warmth.
"Vivillon, Ice Beam!" Doris commanded.
The icy butterfly spat a beam of azure light, freezing everything in its path.
"Dodge it and use Sunny Day!"
As the battle raged, Feng Che noticed new faces appearing in the crowd. Among them was a woman in a butterfly-patterned kimono, her eyes burning with a fanatical intensity.
"That's Miss Chika Kinoshita! The head of the Kinoshita Clan and the world's ultimate Vivillon collector!" "Word of the Sun Pattern must have leaked. Azalea Town is going to be swarming with high-society hunters now."
"Haha! Close the forest gates!" Mayor Hakke ordered his staff, sensing the shift in the air. "No more outsiders allowed in. This town is under lockdown!"
"Vivillon, Solar Beam!" Feng Che called out.
The golden butterfly erupted with light, sending four pillars of solar energy at the icy opponent.
"Hide in the Blizzard!" Doris countered.
The Icy Snow Vivillon beat its wings, creating a localized snowstorm. The blizzard collided with the solar beams in a massive explosion of steam and smoke. When it cleared, the icy butterfly was nowhere to be seen.
She has a Snow Cloak-like ability? Clever, Feng Che thought. She thinks she's invisible.
[Icy Snow Vivillon: My special trait allows me to refract light through the ice crystals to become truly invisible. No one can see me now!][Icy Snow Vivillon: But look at those Sun patterns... they are so beautiful. If only they were on my wings instead.]
I don't need to see you if I can hear you, Feng Che smirked.
"Vivillon, aim toward the upper left corner—Solar Beam again!"
The golden butterfly fired.
[Icy Snow Vivillon: How?! How can he see me?! I didn't leave a single trace!]
The beam pierced through the "empty" air, striking the hidden butterfly dead-center. The Icy Snow Vivillon spiraled out of the sky, crashing heavily onto the stage.
"What a spectacular finish! Participant 4 is our Grand Champion!"
Feng Che stood on the podium as Bugsy handed him the Bug Crystal. It was the size of a palm, condensed from the claws of a legendary Scizor, and throbbed with raw power.
Doris, though fuming with resentment, handed over her Icy Snow Vivillon and her second-place prize as promised.
"Excuse me," Bugsy said, turning to Feng Che. "I'd like to invite you to my Gym as an honored guest. There's something I'd like to discuss."
Feng Che's eyes flickered with curiosity.
