Chapter 108 - Expanding Threat

The silence didn't last.

It never did.

Aiden, Hana, and Kael stood at the extraction point, eyes still fixed on the distant distortion where Final Constant had appeared.

But now—

It was gone.

Not vanished.

Moved.

"…where did it go?" Kael muttered.

Hana's scanner flickered rapidly.

"Signal's splitting…"

Her eyes widened.

"…no, that's not right."

Aiden frowned.

"…what is it?"

She turned the display toward him.

Multiple points.

Across the city.

All carrying fragments of the same signature.

"…it's not in one place anymore."

Back at the resistance base—

Panic spread.

"That's impossible!"

The lead engineer zoomed in on the readings.

"No… it's not splitting itself."

A pause.

"…it's extending."

On the main screen—

Dozens of locations lit up.

System nodes.

Drone clusters.

Core infrastructure points.

All reacting simultaneously.

"…it's connecting everything," another engineer whispered.

"…turning the entire network into its body."

Silence.

Back at extraction point—

Aiden stared at the screen.

"…so it's not just evolving physically."

Hana nodded slowly.

"…it's scaling."

Kael let out a dry laugh.

"Great. So instead of one nightmare, we get the whole city?"

Aiden didn't respond.

Because he felt it again.

That pressure.

But this time It wasn't focused.

It was everywhere.

The air.

The ground.

The system itself.

Watching.

Learning.

Adapting.

"…yeah."

Aiden exhaled slowly.

"This just got worse."

Suddenly—

A distant explosion echoed across the city.

Then another.

And another.

Hana snapped her head up.

"…those aren't random."

Her scanner updated.

Multiple resistance points—

Under attack.

Kael clenched his fists.

"…it's hitting our bases."

Back at the resistance HQ—

Alarms blared.

"We've got multiple breach alerts!"

"Drone swarms incoming!"

"Defense lines are collapsing!"

The lead engineer slammed his hand on the console.

"It's targeting us directly!"

Back at extraction point—

Hana's voice tightened.

"…we need to move. Now."

Aiden didn't argue.

"…yeah."

He looked at the map one more time.

Multiple fires.

Multiple attacks.

No single front.

Everywhere.

"…it's forcing us to split."

Kael nodded grimly.

"And we don't have enough people for that."

Hana turned to Aiden.

"…what do we do?"

For a moment—

He didn't answer.

Because this wasn't like before.

There was no single target.

No clear fight.

Just chaos.

But controlled chaos.

Aiden clenched his fist.

"…we don't play its game."

Hana frowned.

"What do you mean?"

He pointed at the map.

"If we spread out, we lose."

A pause.

"…so we don't."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"Then what?"

Aiden's eyes sharpened.

"…we hit one point."

Hana understood instantly.

"…hard."

He nodded.

"Hard enough to force it to react."

A beat.

"…to pull its attention back."

Kael smirked slightly.

"Make it focus again."

Aiden nodded.

"…exactly."

Back in the system—

Final Constant processed incoming data.

[RESISTANCE RESPONSE: PREDICTED — DISPERSAL]

A pause.

New data updated.

[ANOMALY STRATEGY: UNKNOWN]

For the first time—

There was uncertainty.

Back at extraction point—

Hana brought up a new map.

"Closest major node cluster…"

She zoomed in.

"…Sector 9."

Kael whistled.

"That's heavily defended."

Aiden smirked slightly.

"Good."

Hana looked at him.

"You're serious?"

He nodded.

"…if we're doing this, we don't hold back."

Silence.

Then—

Hana exhaled.

"…then we commit."

Kael cracked his knuckles.

"…guess we're going loud."

Aiden looked toward the city.

Fires burning in the distance.

System activity rising everywhere.

"…yeah."

This wasn't survival anymore.

This was a counterattack.

And if they failed—

There wouldn't be anything left to defend.

Far away—

Final Constant shifted slightly.

[THREAT REFOCUS POSSIBILITY: 12%]

It was watching.

Waiting.

Adapting.

And now—

The next move belonged to Aiden.
