The walk was not too long, but the path was rough and quiet, and the further we moved away from the houses, the more open the land became.
When Fu Sheng finally slowed down, I lifted my head and looked ahead.
The land stretched wide in front of us.
It was large, much larger than I expected, and although the surface looked dry, it was not completely dead. Some parts of the soil were darker, and to one side, a small river flowed steadily, its water moving gently under the morning light.
My eyes paused there.
"There is water," I said.
Fu Sheng nodded.
"It is not strong, but it will be enough if we use it properly," he replied.
I stepped forward slowly, taking in every part of the land.
It was not perfect.
There were weeds growing in some places, and the ground was uneven in others, but it was workable.
Very workable.
Before I could say more, voices came from the side.
"You came."
Two men walked toward us.
