Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8: WHERE THE WIND LEADS

Meanwhile, Yori continues running through the forest. The wind strongly combing through his hair. He comes to a stop; not to rest but upon realizing he can no longer hear the sounds of the people of Kopumula.

He grabs the sac he had on his back and opens it. Inside, he finds an old looking book fastened closed. Yori examines the book with a few sniffs. He holds the strap trying to pry it off and feels a tingly sensation jolt through his body and drops it on the ground.

The book lets out black smoke and ash around the strap. It tussles about as Yori watches. From a distance. The strap finally comes loose, opening the book.

In Yori's mind;

Well that was dramatic. Where did all that smoke even come from? I hope I didn't inhale any. I slowly walk to the book, tensing my muscles incase it jumps at me. It looks normal, for now. I grab a stick and poke it. Still fine. I walk closer and look at the page it opened on. it looks like Masters handwriting.

I stand over the book and stare at it on the ground. It says,

'By now you would've reached beyond where your ears could pick up on anything from the village and opened your bag for clues', wait, how'd he know that? 'Travel North-East following the warm South-East wind. At the very least I taught you about the ten Provinces and you already know you're in the Southern Province. Make sure to exterminate any vampires that try to hurt you or anyone else on your way.

There's a wooden badge in your bag too. You'll need to show that to the people stationed at the tariffs; that's how you'll get into different Provinces. Make sure you reach the place called Saalku, they'll be a man waiting there for you in a weeks time.

Stay safe, sincerely, Master Dell.'

The book snaps shut, making me yelp out and the strap fastens back. Creepy. Well, now I feel like going home even more. All I read is walking and more walking. It's already hot enough to drive me insane.

I poke the book with a stick a few more times before quickly picking it up with my eyes closed and tossing it in my sac. Nothing's happening this time. Good for me. I sure as hell won't be touching that thing anytime soon and continue walking. I can tell its hot just looking ahead and seeing those wavy lines on the road...road. A road! Finally.

I rush to it. One look at the dirt says nothing seems to have passed by. I focus on my hearing; nothing but birds more than six hundred arms from here. Dang it.

I open my sac again and take out a few pieces of bread to eat. I close the bag and start walking again along the road. The suns almost setting too, I have to find a good spot to sleep. maybe a tall tree, I don't think there's any caves around here. The forest here is just like the one in Kopumula; the grass is short and the bushes are thick with the trees growing far in between. Most trees in this forest grow to about seven to ten people tall and have wide muck green leaves. I look at a few trees and climb them to check how comfortable it'd be to sleep in one of them.

I finally find one on my third try. The first broke and I fell. Good thing no ones watching. The second had a snake in it. I can only hear better when I focus even if somethings still. The third tree was really tall and had a lot of strong branches I could sleep on. I tied the bag around my arm and used it as a pillow. I lifted my head and patted the bag down. I couldn't sleep. I try to turn but nearly slip and decide to just stay put. I trace my hand where my collar used to be, it's the first time my neck has ever felt this cold. I think about what happened leading up to the moment I left Kopumula; the patrols, how I spoke to Master...I shrug. I shouldn't have raised my voice at him. My eyes sweep back and forth, like the waves of the oceans Master Dell told me about and I fall asleep.

I wake up to the sun in my eyes making me turn. As I turn, I fail to realize quickly enough why I didn't turn last night and fall to the ground with my sac falling on my face. I push myself off the ground and stretch my back before checking my bag if anything's broken. Whew, lucky save. Master Dell would've drilled a whole in my head with his cane if heard that I almost squished what he packed for me.

My body reflexively shifts into a defense stance, I hear something. It's close.

I look and focus where I think it was, there's a bush. I hear it again.

I stay still, and out runs a rabbit. I relax. I must've spend so much time in the village that I think everything's a vampire. I open my sac and grab another piece of bread and a compass he put in the bag and continue heading North-East.
