Not enough to glitter. Enough to glow when light touched it. The shape was noble, modest, refined, and devastatingly beautiful for that very reason. It did not beg to be looked at.
It simply deserved it.
Lily stared for a few seconds.
"Elena…"
Elena's face remained calm. "I prepared it."
Lily walked closer. Her fingertips hovered over the sleeve before touching the fabric. "For me."
"Yes."
"You prepared wedding clothes."
"Yes."
Lily looked up at her. "When?"
"Last night."
That made Lily laugh once in disbelief. "You accepted this far too quickly."
Elena's mouth moved faintly. "No. I accepted it at the speed required."
That sounded familiar.
Lily almost said so, then realized that was a phrase shared by people in this house more often than was probably healthy.
Instead she looked back at the dress and said quietly, "It is beautiful."
Elena's expression softened by a degree too small for anyone else to notice.
"It should be."
