The walk back felt longer than usual, though Lucas couldn't tell if that was real or just something his mind was doing to fill the gaps left behind. Nothing from the last session had settled properly. Usually there was something to carry with you afterward, even if it was small. A realization, a mistake, something to build on. This time, it all felt loose, like it could slip away if he didn't hold onto it—and even then, he wasn't sure it would stay.
Tomas kicked lightly at the ground as they moved, more out of habit than frustration. He looked like he wanted to say something, then thought better of it. That alone was strange. Normally he would've filled the silence without thinking.
"You're too quiet," Lucas said after a while.
Tomas glanced at him. "Yeah, well… I'm thinking."
"That's new."
Tomas snorted. "Shut up."
