Ningyan stared at his naked reflection rippling on the surface of the spiritual lake, hesitation in his violet eyes.
After a long moment, he finally dragged his bare feet into the water.
The cold sent goosebumps racing across his skin. He looked around, wondering if Lan Meishan had somehow drowned down there, because there was no sign of him anywhere.
"Is this lake really that deep?"
He took another step, then another. The water quickly rose to his waist, and soon his toes could no longer touch the lakebed. His heart skipped with a sudden wave of panic, but he quickly steadied his breathing, keeping his chin above the surface as he looked around.
"Meishan!" he called out, his voice echoing over the quiet water. "I don't think I want to do this anymore!"
Ningyan bit down nervously on his lower lip and after a moment of internal debate, he squeezed his eyes shut. "Here goes nothing!"
